Shaffer, Betty J., 79, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Monday, November 24, 2008 at her home. She was born in Rayland, Ohio on August 13, 1929, daughter of the late William and Amelia Karkoska Johnston.

Betty was a homemaker and member of Thoburn United Methodist Church in St. Clairsville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Edith Long and Nancy Johnston.

She is survived by her husband, Ted Shaffer; two sons, Charles L. (Alberta) Shaffer of Salt Lake City, Utah and William J. (Jill) Shaffer of Centreville, Maryland; a sister, Doris Woods of St. Clairsville; and a granddaughter, Amanda.

Friends may be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., where services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Bradley Call officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor?s choice.
