Betty June Kourkounakis, 93, of St. Clairsville, OH passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Park Health Center in St. Clairsville.  She was born November 10, 1930, in Holloway, OH., a daughter of the late Donald J.  and Hilma E. (Hoskinson) Bethel.

Betty was a homemaker and member of the Holloway United Methodist Church and TOPS, a weight loss program where she made many friends and had fun playing games.  She also loved to play canasta with family and friends.  Betty and her husband enjoyed playing canasta when they lived in Holloway with their friends Ralph and Merle Nester and Jim and Helen Hanna.  Betty was also the last remaining graduate of the Holloway High School Class of 1948.

She loved the Lord and would often pray many times during the day.  She loved Elvis and listening to the country music channel.  She also loved anything strawberry and would drink a strawberry shake in record time.  She told her children not to worry about her as she made the focus about them and would say, as long as you have Jesus, you are never alone.  She was devoted to her family and took special care of her parents, tending to their daily needs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald W. Bethel in 1957; her husband, George Kourkounakis in 2003; a daughter, Becky Kourkounakis in 2015.

Surviving are her children, George (Elizabeth) Kourkounakis of Dover, OH; Linda (Kenny) Hines of Holloway, OH., and April (Charles) Smith of Hagerstown, MD; 10 grandchildren, Deidre, Danitra, Angel, Kevin, Ashley, Abigail, Ben, Courtney, Alicia, and Chloe.  Many great and great great grandchildren; siblings, Alan (Carole) Bethel of Bluffton, SC and Gary (Cathy) Bethel of Jacksonville, FL.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, August 31, from 10 am until time of funeral services at 12 pm at Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville with Pastor Al Hoder officiating.  Burial will follow in Rock Hill Cemetery, Flushing, OH.
