Betty Anita Yudasz Holubeck, 99, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Wheeling (W.Va) Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on June 5, 1927, on the family farm in St. Clairsville, a daughter of the late Joseph and Valeria (Bodzioch) Yudasz.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph John Holubeck; her granddaughters, Adrienne and Lauren Sproull; six sisters, Mary Turkaly, Anna Gazdik, Stella Marma, Frances Antolak, Sophia Antolak, and Victoria Shipta; and three brothers, John, Joseph, and Richard Yudasz.
Betty will be lovingly remembered by her five children: Joseph P. Holubeck of Cranston, Rhode Island; Betty Jo (Randy) Sproull, Annette (Bill) Kozel, Gary (Mary) Holubeck, and Robert (Cathy) Holubeck, all of St. Clairsville. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Jessie Kozel, Zachary (Kamila) Kozel MD, Ethan (Sarah) Kozel; Natalie (Shaun) Gainer, Brett (Kelli) Holubeck, Annie (Nick) Moscato, Luke (Jess) Holubeck, Garrett (Olivia) Holubeck, Capt. Cole Holubeck (USAF), and Maria Holubeck; 17 great-grandchildren, Micah, Grayson, Lilah and Dax Gainer, Genevieve, Cecilia, Peter, Rebecca and Juliana Holubeck, Nora Holubeck, Benjamin and Madison Holubeck, Ian and Scarlett Kozel, Eliza, Rosa and Lucia Moscato, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Betty treasured her family and the life she and Joe built together. She got her work ethic from her many chores growing up on the family farm. As teens, she and her sisters worked as housekeepers for a wealthy Wheeling family. To assist in the WWII effort, she worked for Pratt & Whitney in Lansing Ohio making airplane engine parts. She and her husband built, owned and operated St. Clair Lanes, a family business that continues to be run by the Holubeck family since 1961. She served as Jury Commissioner for the Belmont County Board of Elections, a post she held until her death.
Betty was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clairsville and PNA Lodge No. 455 in Maynard. Her hobbies included scrapbooking, reading, poetry, gardening, and baking. She was an avid bowler, attending tournaments all over the country with her “lady friends.” She loved hearing and telling jokes, loved her polkas and going to polka dances.
We are forever grateful for the loving and compassionate care given to her by the staff of Park Health.
This summer, her family celebrated 100 years of the family farm. As one of her many nieces noted, “Aunt Betty is the epitome of what it means to have been a Yudasz. She is kind, generous, funny and loving. (She) calls every single family member on their birthday which is her way of reminding them that they are loved, valued, and part of something special.”
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville with a Vigil service held at 3:45 p.m., followed by a PNA Service.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville, with Father Timothy Shannon as the celebrant. Interment to follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Colerain, Ohio.
In memory of Betty memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s Central School Capital Building Campaign, 226 West Main St., St. Clairsville, Ohio 43950.
