Magnone, Anthony, 94, of St. Clairsville, died Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Forest Hill Nursing Home.
He was born in Tiltonsville, Ohio on June 28, 1914, son of the late Nick and Jennie Pate Magnone.
Tony was a member of the first graduating class of Yorkville High School in 1932. He was instrumental in Yorkville High School achieving Sate Certification. He attended the University of Alabama prior to his entry into the U. S. Military. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. Tony retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel?s Yorkville Plant. He was a charter member of the Yorkville Fire Dept.; a life member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Club # 895 in Martins Ferry; he was a member of the Elks Bowling League for many years and a member of Thoburn United Methodist Church in St. Clairsville.
In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his two brothers, James and William Magnone; and three sisters, Rose Magnone, Mary Travagliano and Josephine Parry.
Surviving are his loving wife of 44 years, Barbara Steger Magnone; a son, Mark Anthony (Leslie) Magnone; a daughter, Lynnette Magnone (Bob) Cupp; three grandchildren, Marissa and Steven Cupp and Mark Anthony Magnone, Jr. all of St. Clairsville; and a sister, Frances Orizczak of Yorkville.
Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Monday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m., where services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Bradley Call officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville. The St. Clairsville American Legion will conduct services on Monday at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
