Barnes, Andrew J. "Gump", 87, of Willow Grove Rd., Bellaire, Ohio died Monday, April 13, 2009 at his home.

He was born at Neffs, Ohio on November 9, 1921 a son of the late George and Celia Kapitan Barnes.

Gump was a retired coal miner from the former Y & O Coal Allison Mine. He was a Catholic by faith, a member of the Bethesda VFW, United Mine Workers and was an Army veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Zajac Barnes; a son, Andrew Joseph Barnes; brothers, George, John, Paul, Pete, Joseph "Butch", Steve "Beaver" and Martin "Chuck" Barnes; sisters, Mary Olexa and Betty Hoyo.

He is survived by daughters, Dorothy "Cookie" Billetter and Peggy J. (Terry) Schmidt both of St. Clairsville; a son Richard (Patti) Barnes of Twinsburg, Ohio; a sister, Ann Ramsey of Willow Grove; grandchildren, Raeanne (Richard) Ameele, Douglas S. (Inger) Barnes, Brad L. Barnes, Jeremy A. (Lesa) Schmidt and Matthew R. (Jennifer) Schmidt; great grandchildren Dixon and Violet Ameele; Kyan Henry Barnes and Anna Marie Schmidt; many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville, Ohio on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. where services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. with Msgr. Mark Froehlich officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.
