Alston Woodrow "Skiggs" Soles, 85 of Burwood Dr., St.Clairsville died Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry. He was born June 22, 1918 in Shadyside, Ohio.

He was a retired coal miner from Windsor Power House Coal, a member of the Church of Christ in St.Clairsville, an Army veteran of WWII and a member of the UMWA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are his wife , Ruth Rothacher Soles; a daughter, Karen Lucas and her husband George of St.Clairsville; two grandchildren, Amy Sheppard and her husband Brian of Winston-Salem, NC, and David Lawson of St. Clairsville; great grandchildren, Matthew and Jill Sheppard; brother and sister-in-law Bud and Rosemary Schultz of New Paris, Ohio; sister-in-law, Dolores Horner of St.Clairsville; several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St.Clairsville on Thursday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with Everett Hutson officiating. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens at Pleasant Grove.
