Alfred "Al" Molnar, 87, of St. Clairsville, Ohio and formerly of Bridgeport died Sunday, January 17, 2016.
He was born May 9, 1928 in Westland, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Michael and Teresa Dolgosz Molnar.
Al worked 42 years as an employee of Ogden Newspapers, semi-retiring in 1996 and continuing his writing of "Around East Ohio" Column until 2013. A Corporal in the U.S. Army, Al served in Germany as a part of the Peace keeping Corps during the Korean War. He loved his children and grandchildren. Al became an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers as a child and that passion continued throughout his life. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Clairsville and was a former member of the American Legion Post and Eagles Aerie both formerly in Bridgeport and also served on the Belmont County Tourism Council for many years.
In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and Ernest Molnar and a sister, Helen Williams.
Surviving are his wife Janis Chuckery Molnar; his eight children, David (Barbara) Molnar of Lewis Center, Ohio, Michele (Tom) Cox of Mableton, Georgia, Gregg (Margie) Molnar of Wheeling, WV, Mark (Michelle) Molnar of Wheeling, WV, Jeff (Suzy) Molnar of Dallas, Texas, Bryan (Vicky) Molnar of Gahanna, Ohio, Lisa (Dan Looney) Molnar of Lewis Center, Ohio and Sara (James Irvine) Molnar of Akron, Ohio; a sister, Grace Murrish of Cincinnati, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; his former wife, Claudelle Smith Molnar of Bridgeport, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio with a Vigil Service at 4:30 p.m.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Clairsville with Father Thomas Chillog the Celebrant. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.
