Mary Archer

Mary Margaret Archer, 81 of St. Clairsville, Ohio formerly of Glencoe died Monday, January 4, 2010 in Shadyside, at the home of her youngest daughter, Cindy.

She was born February 29, 1928 in Warwood, West Virginia, a daughter of the late John W. Schoeppner and Catherine Theresa Wolf Schoeppner.

Mary was retired co-owner of the former Archer & Sons Repair Service in Bethesda, a former employee of Riesbeck’s Food Market in St. Clairsville, and a member of East Richland Evangelical Friends Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Taylor James “Jim” Archer; a grandson, Zachary Simone.

Surviving are her children, Cathy (Rusty) Yochum of St. Clairsville, Vicky Fowler of Uniontown, Taylor James “Jim” Archer III of Wellsville, Cindy Archer of Shadyside, John (Lisa) Archer of Cambridge, Mike (Darlene) Archer of Shadyside, Mark (Barbara) Archer of St. Clairsville, and Tom (Mary Lynne) Archer of St. Clairsville; a sister, Barbara Ann Slovick of Bellaire; a brother, John Edward (Betty) Schoeppner of Bellaire; 25 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at East Richland Evangelical Friends Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Wayne Ickes officiating. Burial follows in Warnock Cemetery.

Bernice L. Ault

Ault, Bernice L. 95 of Cortland, Ohio formerly of Stewartsville, Ohio died Friday, February 5, 2010 at the home of her daughter in Cortland.

She was born May 29, 1914 in Stewartsville, Ohio a daughter of the late Harvey and Jenny Byers Helms.

Bernice was a homemaker, a Methodist by faith and loved playing the piano, playing bingo and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Ault; daughters, Sheila E. (Clarence) Massa and Myra J. (Kenneth) Sole; brothers, Carl, Ray, Walter, Henry and Martie Helms and sisters, Bertha Neitzelt and Gertrude Imhoff.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret A. Klem of Cortland, Ohio with whom she resided; grandsons, William (Mary) Massa of Delphos, Ohio and their children Nick, Tony and Jessica; Jeffery (Terri) Klem of Cortland, Ohio and their children Michael and Brandon; granddaughter, Kathy (Chad) McLeish of Bridgeport, Ohio; 24 nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville, Ohio on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to time of services at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Gerald Blon officiating.  Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.

Lillian A. “Sally” Ault

Lillian A. "Sally" Ault, age 87, of Centerville, Ohio, died Monday, January 4, 2010 at the SunBrigde Care Center in Parkersburg.

Preceded in death by husband Donald R. "Mutt" Ault, she was born in Centerville, May 11, 1922, a daughter of the late Harold and Jessie Fitch of Centerville.

Lillian was a longstanding member of the Centerville Christian Church.  She was a housewife, telephone operator, and retired as a seamstress with St. Clair Cleaners.

Surviving family include: one daughter, Kathy Halbert and husband Fred of Parkersburg, West Virginia; two sons James L. Ault of Athens, Ohio and Larry Ault and his wife Bonnie of Lancaster, Ohio; sister, Kay Hess and her husband Jim of Senecaville, Ohio.  Also surviving are six grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Curly Fitch Bonar.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 where services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. with Wayne Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Concord Cemetery in Centerville.

John “Jack” Barchanowicz

John Chester “Jack” Barchanowicz, 80 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Friday, January 8, 2010 at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born December 27, 1929 in Tower Hill, PA., a son of the late John Barchanowicz and Sophia Olenick Barchanowicz -Fuddla.

Jack was a retired employee of Wheeling–Pittsburgh Steel’s Beech Bottom Plant, a U.S. Army and Army Reserve veteran, lifetime and proud member of the NRA.

In addition to his parents of Carmichael, PA., he was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Brunner of Charleston, WV; an infant brother, Robert James.

Surviving are three sons, Robert J. (Jenny Murphy) Barchanowicz of Erie, PA., Daniel Barchanowicz-U.S. Army serving in Afghanistan, and David (Bonnie Bizanovich) Callipare of St. Clairsville; sisters, Gertrude “Trudy” Conroy of Waynesboro, VA., Irene “Rene” Urban of North Almstead, OH., Patricia Papes of Vermillion, OH., Dorothy “Dee” Roberts of Phurmont, MD.; nieces, nephews, and extended family. Special thanks to Jack’s best friend and partner in crime, Rube Perkins.

Young at heart, Jack was an outdoorsman and horseman. He loved everything about Texas, he dreamed of the open ranges, and the Old West. He spent most of his days caring for his horses and his dogs. His noble friend and loyal companion, “Wolfie” died on the same day, we guess from a broken heart. Jack enjoyed learning and practicing languages, poetry and history, with a particular interest in the Civil War era. He took pleasure in the simple, but good things in life, a warm fire, a glass of sangria, a good book, writing in his journal. He would occasionally share some of his thoughts and prose with the local newspaper.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Burial follows in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.

Bonnie L. Barton

Barton, Bonnie L., 66, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died June 23, 2010 in Wheeling Hospital.

She was born December 15, 1943 in Ashland, Ohio, daughter of the late Herman and Myrtle Strickling Bott.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Bott.

Surviving are her husband, Everett L. Barton; two sons, Kevin L. Barton and Jamie E. Barton both of St. Clairsville; three step daughters, Marie Gonger of Ashland, Ohio, Melissa Richardson of Mansfield, Ohio and Melinda Taylor of Holiday, Florida; and a sister, Mary Ann Denney of Ashland, Ohio.

Family and friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio, where services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m., with Pastor Herb Zanes officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.

 

James L. Bass, Sr.

Bass, James Lloyd Sr. “Pappy”, 78, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born July 5, 1931 in Shadyside, Ohio, son of the late Earl and Virginia Kroggel Keyser Bass.

Jim was retired from Roberts Pontiac in Martins Ferry and was a former employee of Belmont County Recycling. He was a member of Jacobsburg Church of Christ and was a U. S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Bass.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Elizabeth Hendershot Bass; a daughter, Kay Lynn (John) Sowinski of St. Clairsville; a son, James Lloyd (Deanna Saunders) Bass Jr. of Marysville, Ohio; grandchildren, Kyle Michael Sowinski, Juliana Jade Sowinski, Kristin Leigh Bass, Tyler James Bass and granddaughter-in-law, Jessica Harris; a brother, Paul Bass of Bellaire.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of Christ in St. Clairsville on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Everett Hutson officiating.

Full Military Honor Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. by the Belmont County Council of American Legions.

 

Sammy L. “Meat Ball” Baugh

Baugh, Sammy L. “Meat Ball”, 70, of St. Clairsville, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Sienna Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in St. Clairsville on December 9, 1939, son of the late Darcus and Dorothy Mae Nolan Baugh.

Sammy was a retired coal miner from Saginaw Mining Company in St. Clairsville. He enjoyed playing baseball and softball and was well known around the Ohio Valley playing in many leagues. He also was an avid fisherman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Gussie Baugh; a sister, Lois Baugh; and a stepbrother, Bill Denham.

Sammy is survived by his wife, Sharon Brown Baugh; two daughters, Lisa (Gary) Myers of Dillonvale, Diane (David) Truax of St. Clairsville; a son, Michael (Kathy) Baugh of Flushing; a stepdaughter, Michelle Dake of Utah; a sister, Vicki Dunn of Batesville, Ohio; a brother, Jim Baugh of St. Clairsville; six grandchildren, Logan, Sydney, Camden, Lindsay, Anna and James; several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Friday from 5 p.m. until time of services at 7 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville with Rev. David Demarest officiating.

 

Herbert “Fonz” Bennington

Bennington, III, Herbert Roy. “Fonz”, 33, of Jacobsburg, Ohio died Sunday, January 17, 2010 at City Hospital, Bellaire.

He was born at Bellaire on November 18, 1976 a son of Herbert R. Bennington, Jr. and Albretta “Bertie” Arn Bennington.

He was a self employed mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Herbert and Almeda Bennington, Sr.; John Arn, Sr. and William Heatherington; a brother-in-law, James Stonebreaker, Jr.

He is survived by his parents, Herb and Bertie Bennington of Shadyside; one son, Herbert Roy Bennington, IV; three daughters, Haileigh, Hauna and Heather Bennington all of Jacobsburg; his long time girl friend, Tonya Ray; sisters, Wendy and Paul Stonebreaker of Armstrongs Mills and Rhonda and James Willis of Bellaire; maternal grandmother, Leona Arn of Shadyside; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a great nephew.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home, Jacobsburg on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.  Funeral services will follow the visitation with Pastor Jeff Lewis officiating.

L. Eugene Berry

L. Eugene Berry, 71 of Flushing, Ohio, our angel on earth who is now our angel in heaven, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling.

He was born September 22, 1938 in Duncanwood, Ohio, a son of the late Lester Berry and Berdena Howell Berry.

He was a retired bus driver for the Belmont County Community Action Commission and a member of the Flushing Alliance Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Marie Berry and Mary Rocchi.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Bartrug Berry; children, Regina Keyser of Flushing, Kevin (Rhonda) Berry of Warnock, and Ronald (Kerri) Berry of Cambridge; a sister, Betty Twarog of St. Clairsville; grandchildren, Kevin Berry, Eugene Keyser, Nathien Berry, Carolyn Berry, and Jenna Keyser; great grandchildren, Kaiden and Mason Berry.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Flushing Alliance Church with Pastor Dean Lancaster officiating.

Lou Berus

Berus, Louis H. 93, of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Friday, May 21 at East Ohio Regional Hospital.

He was born at Bridgeport, Ohio on December 5, 1916 a son of the late Frank and Antonia Yerin Berus.

Lou was a retired employee of Wheeling-Pittsburg Steel’s Martins Ferry Plant, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church at St. Clairsville where he was a member of the St. Francis Society.  He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus Counsel #4243 at St. Clairsville, the SNPJ and KSKJ Lodges at Bridgeport and was an Army veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Joe, Frank, John, Martin, Rudy, Bill, Tony, Mike, Max and Raymond Berus his twin brother Pete Berus; sisters, Ann Bott and Mary Perko.

He is survived by his wife, Mary A. Bradac Berus; a daughter Karen Morris of Bellaire; sons Michael Berus of Harleysville, PA and Gregory Berus of Pine Bluff, AR; 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 where a vigil service will be held at 4:00 p.m. and  a Knights of Columbus Rosary service at 7:00 p.m.  Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clairsville with Fr. Bradley Greer officiating.  Burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.

Military honors will be conducted by the Belmont Co. Council of American Legions at the church following Mass.

 

Mildred D. “Millie” Blackmore

Mildred Delores “Millie” Blackmore, 80 of Lansing, Ohio died Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Forest Hill Retirement Community in St. Clairsville after a long struggle with her illness.

She was born May 15, 1929 in Hamilton, Ohio, a daughter of the late Clarence Carr and Bessie Matilda Hicks Carr.

Millie was a former employee of LS Good & Co. in Wheeling and Sears Roebuck & Co. at the Ohio Valley Mall, she was a member of the St. Clairsville Christian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Blackmore; brothers, Walter, Lewis, and Homer Carr.

Surviving are her husband, Orville A. Blackmore, Sr.; children, Orville A. Blackmore, Jr. of Wheeling, WV., John Lynn Blackmore of Chillicothe, Ohio, Bonnie Musgrave of Essex, VT., and Bruce Edward Blackmore of Columbus, Ohio; four brothers, Wayne, George, Ira, and Eugene Carr; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Wednesday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. where services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Curtis Hallstrom officiating. Burial follows in Linwood Cemetery, Blaine, Ohio.

Lawrence “Larry” Blinco Jr.

Blinco, Lawrence Jr. “Larry”, 63, of St. Clairsville, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 12, 2010 in Wheeling Hospital.

He was born Dec. 13, 1946 in Martins Ferry, Ohio, son of the late Lawrence and Olive Freer Blinco.

Larry was raised in Weirton, W.Va. and became a retired Sergeant Major serving over 22 years in the U.S. Army. He served valiantly and most notably as a "Ghostrider" in a helicopter assault capacity during the Vietnam War, eventually, serving for an extended period of time in South Korea. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses in St. Clairsville.

Surviving are his wife, Malnam Kim Blinco; two sons, David (Ashley) Blinco of Bethesda and Patrick Blinco and his fiancé Rachel Fox of St. Clairsville; a grandson, Ethan Blinco; two brothers, Thomas George Blinco of Charleston, W.Va. and Robert Lee Blinco of Shadyside.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville from 4 p.m. until time of services at 8 p.m. with John Long officiating.

 

Donald N. Brown Sr.

Brown, Donald N. Sr., 83, of Maynard, Ohio, died Monday, May 24, 2010 in Wheeling Hospital.

He was born January 5, 1927 in Moundsville, West Virginia, son of the late George and Clara Holsey Brown.

Donald was a retired employee of Blaw-Knox Corporation and former employee of Fostoria Glass. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Donald was  a member of the Moundsville American Legion; the Buckeye Modulator CB Club; and a member of the Maynard United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Donald N. Brown Jr.; a sister, Wilma Metz; two brothers, Willard Brown and Webster Brown.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Huntsman Brown; 3 sons, Thomas E. (Shirley) Brown of Hundred, W.Va., Jerry Lee (Nancy) Brown and David Brown both of Moundsville, W.Va.; a daughter, Merle Margaret Stern of Moundsville, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a brother, William (Virginia “Red”) Brown of Moundsville; a sister, Doris Holmes of Moundsville; and a sister-in-law, Helen Brown of Moundsville.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio, where services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m., with Rev. James Hildebrand officiating. Burial will follow in Unity Cemetery, New Athens, Ohio. Full Military Honor Services will be conducted by the Belmont County Council of American Legions on Friday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home.

 

Mildred Bumgardner

Mildred P. Bumgardner, 89 of Warnock, Ohio died Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Wheeling Hospital.

She was born July 23, 1920 in Glencoe, Ohio, a daughter of the late Chester Kettlewell and Mary Adeline Wheeler Kettlewell.

Mildred was a retired nurse’s aide, a member of Warnock Community Church, and the Glencoe Senior Citizens Center.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Ewing Bumgardner,

Surviving are three sons, Marvin (Darlene) Bumgardner of Belmont, Chester (Mary) Bumgardner of Warnock, and Lawrence (Nancy) Bumgardner of Morristown; four daughters, Mary Lou (Gerald) Usenick of Glencoe, Sara Jane (Louis) Rebecca of Warnock, Lara Belle (Greg) Crow of Bellaire, and Debra (Tom) Lawrence of Centerville; two sisters, Minerva Kettlewell of Bridgeport and Marjorie Fox of Belmont; 19 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Harry L. Bumgarner

Bumgarner, Harry L. “Butch”, 64, of Piqua, Ohio died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Liza’s Place in Wheeling, West Virginia.

He was born February 25, 1946 in Martins Ferry, Ohio, son of Ethelene Laizure Bumgarner and the late Harry G. Bumgarner.

Harry worked in Economic Development for many years in Marietta, Akron, Marion, Dayton and retired from the city of Piqua as the Assistant City Manager/Director of Economic Development. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served as First Lieutenant during the Vietnam War. He is a member of the VFW in Piqua; a member of the Ohio Economic Development Association and a member of the Fairmont Presbyterian Church in Kettering, Ohio.

In addition to his father, Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Jean Paxton Bumgarner; a brother-in-law, Dr. Bruce Paxton and a nephew, Andy Paxton.

Surviving are his two sons, Adam Bumgarner (wife Annie) of Centerville, Ohio and Aaron Bumgarner (significant other Andrea Nelson) of Stamford, Connecticut; granddaughter, Nora Jean Bumgarner; mother, Ethelene Bumgarner of St. Clairsville, Ohio; sister, Bonnie Davenport (husband James) of St. Clairsville; sister-in-law, Aline Paxton of Athens, Ohio; several nieces, nephews and countless friends.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home, 141 S. Marietta St., St. Clairsville, Ohio on Thursday from 5 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m., with Rev. Dr. Bradley Call officiating.

The Belmont County Council of Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct Full Military Honors on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

An additional Memorial Service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 31st at 1 p.m. at the Fairmont Presbyterian Church, 3705 Far Hills Avenue, Kettering, Ohio with the Rev. Robert Wade officiating.

Interment will be held at the Miami Valley Memorial Gardens in Centerville, Ohio at a later date.

Kay A. (Hall) Burgey

Burgey, Kay A. (Hall), 67, of Dilles Bottom, Ohio, died June 22, 2010 at her home.

She was born December 31, 1942 in Glencoe, Ohio, daughter of the late Robert James Hall Sr. and Cora May Lendon Hall.

Kay was a former manager of McDonalds in Wheeling. She was a former member of Glencoe Methodist Church and attended East Richland Friends Church.

In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert J. Hall Jr., Clinton Hall and Richard “Dick” Hall; a sister, Audrey Usenick; a nephew, Kevin Hall and a great niece, Kim Taylor.

Surviving are her two brothers, William E. (Hilda) Hall of Tempe, Arizona and Kenneth C. (Miriam) Hall of Glencoe, Ohio; nieces and nephews.

Angelana (Angie) Clark

Clark, Angelana F. (Angie), 74 died Saturday, January 9, 2010 at her home in St. Clairsville, OH.

She was born April 21, 1935 in Teeters Creek, Bridgeport, WV a daughter of the late Columbus Martin Gainer and Bessie Lutz Gainer.

Mrs. Clark was retired from the Social Security Administration in Wheeling, WV.  She was an active member of Thoburn United Methodist Church and an avid walker on the National Road Bikeway (trail).  Angelana enjoyed gardening, collecting Fostoria glassware and spending time with her family and friends.  She loved life and loved to laugh and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher James Lewis; four brothers, Hubert, Aubert, Columbus Junior and Ersel Gainer; two sisters, Juanita Davis and Rosalie Coffman.

Surviving are her loving husband of 40 years, Robert L. Clark; two daughters, Sheila Jacob and her husband Parke of Wellsburg, WV and Elizabeth Sue Olnick of Westminster, MD; one son, Don Richard Childers and his wife Rita of Moundsville, WV; one stepdaughter, Jamie Gray of Moundsville, WV; one stepson, George Roger Clark and his wife Jane of Moundsville, WV; Grandchildren, Jeremy Olnick, Jodie Childers and her husband Dan Messina, Cody Childers, Michele Coulson and her husband Curt, Trevor Clark and his wife Megan, Rachel Potters and her husband Ben, Robin Clark and her husband Aaron Hoback, Beth Glover and her husband Jason and Beth Tetrick; 11 great grandchildren; three sisters, Vivian Forman, Elizabeth Davis and Sarah Nutter; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Donda, Frank, 89, of St. Clairsville, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010 at his home.

He was born in St. Clairsville on April 20, 1920, son of the late Anton “Andy” and Frances Vild Donda.

Frank was a retired die setter from the International Harvester Plant in Shadyside, Ohio. He attended the East Richland Friends Church; he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post 159 in St. Clairsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Sherba.

Frank is survived by his loving wife, Myrtle Louise Boich Donda; two sons, Frank E. (Lynn) Donda of St. Clairsville and Gregory L. (Shelley) Donda of Westerville, Ohio; a sister, Bessie Hoffman of Wheeling; a brother, Joe Donda of St. Clairsville; six grandchildren, Heather Lynne, Trevor James, Sommer Marie, Ashley B., Amber Nicole, Zachary Lee and a great granddaughter, Makayla Rylee.

Private Services were held at the convenience of the family at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville with Rev. Wayne Ickes officiating.  Burial was in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville. Full Military Honor Services were conducted by the Belmont County Council of American Legions.

Mina Jane Early, 89 of Neffs, Ohio died Monday, February 15, 2010 at Belmont Community Hospital in Bellaire, Ohio.

She was born March 29, 1920 in Bellaire, a daughter of the late Marion Cecil Trigg and Mary Ethel Schramm Trigg.

Mina was a homemaker and member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church on Key Ridge.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Bonfini, Jr.; a sister, Ida Nelson; brothers, Arthur, Vernon, Lewis, Delbert, John, and Wilson Trigg.

Surviving are her husband, George Richard Early; daughters, Rose Mary (Sonny) Olinski of Pleasant City, Elaine Bonfini of Bellaire, Cindy (Jim) Padgett of Neffs, and Linda (Sam) Drummond of Bellaire; sons, Charles (Debbie) Bonfine of Canton, Jim (Donita) Coutz of Bellaire, and Rick (Patty) Early of Glencoe; sister, Ruth Sidone of Jupiter, FL.; a brother, Elmer Trigg of Bellaire; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren.

Renie Jean French

French, Renie Jean, age 69, of St. Clairsville, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 3, 2010.

She was born March 15, 1940 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late James and Henrietta Wallace Rusch.

Renie was a retired medical assistant and was retired from Belmont County Senior Services as the director of the Colerain Senior Center.

Surviving are two sons, John French and William French; two daughters, Christine Schau and Kate Holcomb; a sister, Bonnie Zablotny; three brothers, Randall, James and David Rusch; three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Honoring Renie’s wishes there will be a private family service on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville. Gerda R. Friend

Gerda R. Friend, 89 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Sunday, January 10, 2010 at Park Health Center in St. Clairsville.

She was born October 5, 1920 in Germay, a daughter of the late Willie and Alice Reichstein.

Gerda was a retired employee of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel’s Steubenville Plant and a Garment Factory employee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil A. Friend; a granddaughter, Stacy Friend Flick.

Surviving are four sons, Werner H. (Janet) Petschke of St. Clairsville, Harold C. “Punky” Friend of Bannock, Norman H. (Ardith) Friend of Cuyahoga Falls, Roger “Steve” (Karen) Friend of Columbus; two grandchildren, Scott Friend and Rhonda Colarik; three great grandchildren.

John  J. Garczyk Jr.

Garczyk, John J. Jr., 75, of Maynard Rd., St. Clairsville, Ohio died Monday, January 18, 2010 in Wheeling Hospital.

He was born in Lafferty, Ohio on December 28, 1934, son of Teresa Klotz Garczyk and the late John J. Garczyk Sr.

John was a retired employee from International Harvester and a truck driver. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Maynard; the Maynard PNA Club; the Fairpoint Polish Club; and was a volunteer firefighter with Maynard Community Vol. Fire Dept.. For over 50 years.

John is survived by his wife, Joanne C. Vicker Garczyk; his mother, Teresa Garczyk; two children, Sharon (Timothy) Perko of Reynoldsburg, Ohio and Kenneth J. (Emily) Garczyk of Pleasant Grove, Ohio; three grandchildren, Chelsie Perko, Morgan E. Garczyk and Cameron Garczyk.

Gonot, M. Kathleen, 80, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Thursday, March 11, 2010 in Wheeling Hospital.

She was born April 14, 1929 in St. Clairsville, daughter of the late John and Leota Gable Dunn.

Kathleen was a homemaker and enjoyed playing 500 Bid with her card club friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leo F. Gonot; and her sister, Beulah Lantz.

Surviving are her four children, David (Jean) Gonot of Quaker City, Ohio, Yvonne (Bob) Gibeaut of Bannock, Ohio, Deborah Gonot of St. Clairsville and Leo G. (Kelli) Gonot of New London, Connecticut; five grandchildren, Tracy Peters, Bryan Peters, Jason (Tracey) Games, Holly (Oscar) Olsen and Logan Gonot; two great grandchildren, Kathleen Renee Games and Nick Goolie.

Thomas A. Grady Sr.

Thomas Aloysius Grady, Sr., 84 formerly of St. Clairsville, Ohio and current resident of Winding Hill, Bellaire died Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born September 24, 1925 in Canton, Ohio, a son of the late Michael P. Grady and Gertrude Donahue Grady.

A retired self employed furniture manufacturer’s representative, member and Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville, and a Navy veteran of WWII.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Adams Grady; 2 brothers and 4 sisters.

Surviving are children, Thomas A. (Peggy) Grady, Jr. of Yorkville, Anne C. Grady of Youngstown, Kathleen “Kitty” (Bill) Freeman of Bellaire, and Sean P. (MaryAnne) Grady of Sandwich, Mass.; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Grant, David M. Sr., 64, of Belmont, formerly of Senecaville, Ohio, died Jan. 29, 2010 at home.

He was born September 28, 1945 in Jacobsburg, Ohio, son of the late James and Freda Foulst Grant.

David was the retired owner and operator of Grant Contracting and was retired from Consolidation Coal Company # 3 Mine.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Surviving are his children, Bernell Hall of Holloway, David M. Grant Jr. of Senecaville, Shirella (George) Walls of Belmont, Kim (Tom) Garloch and Tina (Jim) Meager both of Glencoe; 9 grandchildren, Rick Hall, Charlie Hall, David (Brandy) Hall and Shiela Hall, Chad Walls, Dustin Walls, Nathan Walls, Abbi Walls and Alyson Grant;  8 great grandchildren; several sisters and  brothers.

Clayton Wayne Rebecca-Hall

Rebecca-Hall, Clayton Wayne, 17, of Barnesville, Ohio died Saturday, July 3, 2010 in Quaker City.

He was born in Barnesville on July 21, 1992, son of David Hall and Tina Rebecca-Hall.

Clayton was a student at the Belmont-Harrison Career Center and was a member of the Hillcrest Bible Church.

Surviving are his mother, Tina Rebecca-Hall; his father, David Hall; three brothers, Austin Passmore, Curtis Hall and Austin Dougherty; maternal grandparents, Louis and  Jane Rebecca of Warnock; paternal grandparents, David and Ruth Hall of St. Clairsville.

Clayton Hampp

Clayton Hampp died Sunday March 14, 2010. He was born December 3, 1949 in Circleville, Ohio to Frank Meeker Hampp and Georgia Baker Hampp. Clayton had seven siblings, Reba, Patricia, Annabelle, Frank, Charles, Doris, and Thelma.

Clayton lived in Columbus for many years and moved to the Belmont Habilitation Center in St. Clairsville in 1984. He moved to Donnerville Group Home in 2006 and then to Pineview 1b Group Home in 2007 where he resided until his death. He attended Belco Works Workshop and Tomorrow’s Corner Day Program, both in St. Clairsville.

Prior to health changes, Clayton greatly enjoyed being outside. He was most content when he could be outside walking and enjoying the weather. He also enjoyed going for long rides in the community, just to see the sights and visiting parks. Clayton also liked soaking in the bathtub as a way to relax. He loved candy and appreciated his favorite friends who always had some for him, and most of all, Clayton enjoyed his alone time.

He will be sadly missed by his many friends and housemates.

Heslop, John F., 67, of Centerville, Ohio died at home Friday, April 9, 2010.

He was born April 15, 1942 in Bellaire, son of the late Howard D. Heslop and Elizabeth J. Jones Heslop Shunk.

John was a retired coal miner and construction worker. He was an Army veteran and a member of Concord Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy Graham Heslop; 3 sons, John (Angie) Heslop of Bellaire, Zachary Hesolp at home and Kevin (Ruth) Barker of Centerville; 2 daughters, Cheryl (Tim) Joseph and Crystol (Scott) Seladoki both of Wheeling; 2 brothers, Howard (Regina) Heslop of Bellaire and Richard (Theresa) Heslop of Shadyside; 2 sisters, Linda (John) Sidon of St. Clairsville and Lisa Frazier of Jacobsburg; 7 grandchildren, Taylor, Emily, Christian, Logan, Ian, Preston and Mya.

Hood, Raymond, 60 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Liza’s Place in Wheeling.

He was born at Martins Ferry, Ohio on March 18, 1950 a son of the late Maskrey “Mack” Hood and Freda Long Hood.

Ray was a service technician for Casto Technical Services and a member of American Legion Post 159 at St. Clairsville, the Polish Club at Fairpoint and the St. Clairsville Eagles.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jim Hood.

Surviving are his children, Wendy Conaway of Bridgeport; Brian Hood of Portsmouth, Ohio and Jeanna Hood of Glen Robbins; brothers, Don Hood of Martins Ferry and Jerry Hood of Florida; a granddaughter, Morgan Hood and grandsons, Chase and Noah Conaway.

Horsfall, LeRoy W. “Lee the Barber”, 77 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Monday, March 15, 2010 at his home.

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 7, 1932 a son of William Henry and Anna Baechle Horsfall.

He was owner/operator of Lee’s Barber Shop in St. Clairsville for 54 years and was a member of East Richland Friends Church.  Lee was a former St. Clairsville City Councilman, a member Martins Ferry Elks Lodge, life member of the Saints Club, member of Belmont County Board of Elections, American Legion Post #159, VFW Post 5356, Belmont Lodge #16 F.& A.M. all of St. Clairsville.  He served as camera man for Red Devils Football for 17 years and was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenny Horsfall.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Louise Seckman Horsfall; daughters, Debra Kay (King) Hill of Solon, Ohio, Carol Ann (Scott) Foster of Canton, Ohio, Rebecca Elaine (Ray) Sabo of Martins Ferry and Brenda Lea (Willie) Burghy of St. Clairsville; sons, Brian Lee (Patty) Willett of Louisville, Ohio and Robert Ellwood (Kristen) Willett of Toronto, Ohio; brothers, William Frances (Carol) Horsfall of Pataskala, Ohio and John Henry (Shirley) Horsfall of Cleveland, Ohio; brother-in-law, William (Bhin) Seckman of Clarksburg, WV; sister-in-law, Susan Beth (Bob) Freeman of Clarksburg, WV and 12 grandchildren.

Genevieve Irwin of Sand Hill Rd., Bellaire, Ohio died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Country Club Retirement Center in Bellaire.

She was born in Bellaire, a daughter of the late W. Carl Irwin and Edna Loretta Ramsay Irwin.

She was a former employee of WTRF in Wheeling, a Methodist, and member of the Wheeling Civic Garden Center.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Jim and William Irwin.

Surviving are sisters-in-law, Doris W. Irwin of North Carolina and Barbara Irwin of Illinois; nieces and nephews, Jody (Fred) Irwin-Hnat, Gregg (Jo Ann) Irwin, and Jennifer Irwin all of New Jersey, Sandra (Bill) Starr of Illinois, Steven (Esther) Irwin of Texas, Tom Irwin of California, and Ann (Don) Fernandes of Illinois; several great nieces and nephews.

Jeffers, Patricia Rose (Heath), 77, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010 in Baton Rouge, LA where she resided with her daughter. She was formerly of Glencoe, Ohio.

She was born May 30, 1932 in St. Clairsville, OH, daughter of George “Bud” and Virginia Rose (McCort) Heath. Patricia married Sanford Jeffers on June 30, 1951. He preceded her in death on October 31, 2001. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, George “Buddy” Heath Jr.

She is survived by her children, Sanford “Sammy” (Debbie) Jeffers Jr. of Barberton, OH,  Wayne (Liz) Jeffers of Somers Point, NJ, Donald (Sue) Jeffers of Adrian, MI and Joyce (Albert) Saksa of Gonzales, LA; also surviving are her grandchildren, Michelle (Jamie) Patton of Richwood, OH, Heather Jo Maldonado of Barberton, OH, Jamie (Marc) Kahn of Norton, OH, Michelle Fox of Somers Point, NJ, Joy Jeffers of Adrian, MI, Vincent (Rachel) Saksa of Prairieville, LA and Timothy (Shannon) Saksa of Shreveport, LA; and her great-grandchildren, Hailey Patton, Allison Blair, Alex Maldonado, Abby Maldonado, Emma Kahn, Marc Kahn Jr., Angelic Watson, Dalton Watson and Ashton Saksa; her brothers, Jerry, Francis, Earl, and Alan Heath and sisters LeNora Blon and Maude Valentine. Patricia is also survived by nieces, nephews and extended family who will greatly miss her warm spirit.

She had a special gift of making people feel welcome in her home.  No one was a stranger for long and no one left her home hungry.  She enjoyed people and always believed the best about everyone, encouraging them to reach their highest potential.

William Howard “Bill” Jeffers, Jr.

Jeffers, William Howard Jr. “Bill”, 45, of Glencoe, Ohio died Saturday, April 24, 2010 in Wheeling Hospital.

He was born in Wheeling on June 22, 1964, son of Shirley Helsley Jeffers and the late William Howard Jeffers.

Bill was a former employee of Ross Automotive in Flushing and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Dwight D. Eisenhower.  He was a member of the former Glencoe United Methodist Church and a member of the Glencoe American Legion Post 632.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Howard “ToJo” Jeffers.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley Helsley Jeffers; two daughters, Jessica Jeffers and Kahley Jeffers both of Lansing; three sisters, Sheila Junkins of Clarksburg, Ohio, Pam (Dean) Kresak of Morristown and Susan (Steve) Hall of Warnock; two nieces, Cammie Hanson and Bethany Layman; a nephew, Cody Hall; two great nephews, Brandon Brooks and Nathan Layman.

Johnson, Marion E., 89, of Lafferty, died Monday, March 15, 2010 in East Ohio Regional Hospital, Martins Ferry.

He was born August 26, 1920 in Midway, Ohio, son of the late Charles and Lucy Bumgardner Johnson.

Marion retired from Ohio River Collieries in 1982. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He also enjoyed fishing, playing cards and cookouts.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Hennebert Johnson; 2 step grandsons, Michael Spano and Dwayne Feeney; 6 brothers, Charles,, William, Harold, Wilbur, Richard and Don Johnson; and a sister, Emma Cordner.

Kilgore, Dan Reed, 70 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born in Bellaire, Ohio on November 23, 1939 a son of the late Emory B. and Martha Reed Kilgore.

Dan was a retired Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor from the Wheeling office of the West Virginia Department of Vocational Rehabilitation Services and was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Wheeling.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dan is survived by his wife, Ellen Hostetler Kilgore; daughters, Christine Kilgore McKee (Timothy) of Eaton, Ohio and Elizabeth Kilgore of Brooklyn, NY; sisters and brother, Sue Havelka (Frank) of St. Clairsville, Betty Foster (Bob) of Wheeling, Emory “Buck” Kilgore (Trudy) of Florida and Dona Craig (Ralph) of Wheeling; grandsons, Paul Edward McKee and Joseph Daniel McKee.

Kopyar, Edward L., 82, of Glencoe Rd., Belmont, Ohio, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2009 at Cumberland Pointe Health Care Center in St. Clairsville.

He was born Oct. 8, 1927 in Bellaire, Ohio, son of the late Florian J. and Elizabeth Rabulsky Kopyar.

Edward retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel’s Martins Ferry Plant after 35 years of service.  He served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served four years in the U.S. Navy; and was a member of Glencoe American Legion Post 632.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Fred and two sisters, Betty Kopyar and Wilma Gilham.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth “Libby” Sawyers Kopyar; four brothers, William  of St. Clairsville, Robert of Bellaire, Tom of Cambridge and Bernard of Sunset Heights; several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg, Ohio on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m., where services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m., with Rev. Gerald Blon officiating.  Burial will follow in Jacobsburg Cemetery. Military Services will be conducted by the Belmont County Council of American Legions on Thursday at 11 a.m.

 

Ellen Kresak

Kresak, Ellen, 89 of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling.

She was born in Maynard, Ohio on September 6, 1920 a daughter of the late Mike and Elizabeth Horvath Hanzel.

Ellen was a loving mother and wonderful homemaker who always put her family first.

She is currently a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville and previously of Sacred Heart Church in Neffs, Ohio.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Mike; son Michael; sisters, Elizabeth Hanzel and Mary Lytle; brothers, John, Mike and Andy Hanzel.

Surviving are her daughter, Katherine (William) Hall of St. Clairsville; son Thomas (Diane) Kresak of Florida; grandchildren, William J. Hall, Angela K. (Geoff) Staufer, Jacqueline Owens, Christopher (Jesse) Kresak; great grandchildren, Logan Staufer, Evan Staufer, Courtney Owens, Caden Kresak and Roen Kresak; several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville, Ohio on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. where a vigil service will be held at 3:45 p.m.  Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church with Fr. Anthony Batt celebrant.  Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.

Betty and Benny Kupronis Together Again

KUPRONIS, Betty Jean, 81, of Blaine, Passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 at her daughter’s home in Bolivar, Ohio. Born September 25, 1928 in Crabapple, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Leota Gibson. Betty attended St. Clairsville High School. She married Benny Kupronis on February 1, 1947. They were together 50 years until Benny’s death on March 14, 1997.

Betty worked 18 years at Clevite Corp. in Lansing, Ohio. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church in Blaine, Ohio. Betty enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, crocheting and loved her flower gardens.  She loved spending time with her family and missed her husband dearly.

She will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Sharon (husband Auvil) Parsons of St. Clairsville, Ohio and Rosemarie (husband Bob) Shingle of Bolivar, Ohio.  One brother, Bill Gibson of Pipersville, Pennsylvania, three sisters, Lillian Kupronis of Itasca, Illinois, Dorothy Grieswell of Jacksonville, North Carolina and Mary Deacon of Algonquin, Illinois.

Grandchildren include, A.P. and Shayna Parsons of St. Clairsville, Stacy Shingle-Sinicropi (husband Jason) of Indianapolis, Indiana and Rob Shingle (Wife Laura) of Saline, Michigan; Great grandchildren include, Taylor Alexis, Ashley Marie, and Benjamin Jason Sinicropi, Meghanrose, Emelia Margaret and Anna Josephine Shingle.

In addition to her parents and her husband Benny, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Wilbur and George Gibson and sister, Lois Rosenwinkle.

A Private Service officiated by Rev. John A. Brown was held at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville. Betty was laid to rest by her beloved husband in Holly Memorial Gardens.

Lydia R. Laisure, 65 of Provident, Ohio died Sunday, April 25, 2010 at her home.

She was born October 2, 1944 in Germany, a daughter of the late Maxwell and Agnus Rinke.

Lydia was a nurse’s aide at Bell Nursing Home and McGraw Nursing Home.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Rita and Anna Mae.

Surviving are her husband, Richard L. Laisure; children, Rita Morgan of Bellaire, Richard (Angel) Laisure of Bethesda, and Michael (Sonya) Laisure of St. Clairsville; sisters, Toni and Erika; a brother, Gunder; 5 grandchildren.

Martha Mae Lazor

Lazor, Martha Mae, 81, of Piedmont, Ohio formerly of Mingo Junction died Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at her home.

She was born March 17, 1928 in Lumberport, W.Va., a daughter of the late Earl Carpenter and Pearl Grogg Carpenter.

She was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Barton, a member of St. Clairsville American Legion Post 159 Ladies Auxiliary, and former president of Mingo Junction American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Fredericks; an infant brother.

Surviving are her husband William “Bill” Lazor; two daughters, Karen (Mike) Homol of Steubenville and Chris (Dale) Bonnett of Belmont; nine grandchildren, Michael (Kasey) Homol, Rebecca (Philip) Rook, Bernadette (Adam) Meyer, April (Mike) McCann, Anna (Mike) Hahn, Jonathan, Christina, and Mary Homol, Sarah Bonnett; 14 great grandchildren.

There will be a funeral service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and a Panachida service at 9:15 a.m. on Friday in the funeral home.

Helen J. LeMasters

Helen J. LeMasters, 63 of Neffs, Ohio died Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling.

She was born October 11, 1946 in Bellaire, a daughter of the late John Ridzinski and Ella A. Smith Ridzinski.

Helen was a former employee of Bobbie Brooks in Bellaire and member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Bridgeport.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, John Ridzinski and her ex-husband, Robert LeMasters.

Surviving are two sisters, Rose Bumgardner of Stewartsville, and Mary Wilt of Martins Ferry; a brother, William Ridzinski of Mineral Ridge, Ohio; many nieces and nephews; her dog and best friend, Buddy.

Irma Louise Lodge

Lodge, Irma Louise Gillingham, 89, of Bannock, Ohio, died June 12, 2010 in Cumberland Pointe Care Center, St. Clairsville.

She was born September 10, 1920 in Fern, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late John and Della Frederick Gillingham.

Irma was a graduate of Flushing High School and attended West Liberty College. She married H. Barricklow Lodge in 1942. She loved and served the Lord faithfully as a long term member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville with many years of service. She held weekly Bible study and prayer meetings in her home and was an avid gardener.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H. Barricklow Lodge in 1984; 3 brothers, John, Weldon and Norman Gillingham; and 2 sisters, Theresa Gillingham and Leathia Berdine.

Surviving are her children, Rev. Dr. John H. Lodge (Mary Emma) of Leesburg, Florida, Linda L. Long (Rev. Dr. Stephen) of Ashtabula, Ohio and Rev. Arthur L. Lodge (Mary Elizabeth) of Paris, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Rebekah, Sarah, Elisabeth, Joshua, Carrie, Jonathan and Rachel; seven great grandchildren, Lydia, Stephanie, John, Michael, Charlotte, Genevieve and Meredith.

Rose Mary Long

Rose Mary Long, 84 of St. Clairsville, Ohio went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 8, 2010 from Liza’s Place in Wheeling.

She was born May 16, 1925 in Bellaire, a daughter of the late John Ernest Shaver and Alta Rose Greenwood Shaver.

Rose was a homemaker and member of the South Bellaire United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, James William Long on February 4, 1994; bothers, Dale, Fred, Paul, David Shaver and Anthony Boyle; sisters, Agnes Addison and Betty Major.

Surviving are three daughters, Suzanne (Michael St. James) Geiser of Barnesville, Jamie (Clifford) Redman and Joanne (Vernon) Fabry both of St. Clairsville; a son, Todd (Lori) Long of Avon Lake, Ohio; sisters, Rita Planey of Stewartsville, Beverly (Pete) Christakis of St. Clairsville; brothers, Homer Shaver of Baltimore, MD., Charles Shaver of Landers, CA; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Long of Bellaire; eight grandchildren, Dana (Michael) Jones, Alison (Anthony) Jordan, Bethany Peters, Megan (Bobby) Stoner, Zachary Redman, Joshua Redman, Kyle Long, and Kaitlin Long; eight great grandchildren, Hannah, Aaron, and Jacob Jordan, Kalleigh and Austin Stoner, Mikayla and Emily Jones, Mason Long.

Steve Malolepszy

Malolepszy, Steve, 93, of Shadyside, Ohio, died Friday, May 14, 2010 at Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale.

He was born July 25, 1916 in Fairpoint, Ohio, son of the late Joseph and Sophia Malolepszy.

Steve was a retired employee of Belmont Casket Company and a retired coal miner.  He was a graduate of Shadyside High School.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Joe, Leo, Walter and Stanley Malolepszy.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Zajac Malolepszy; 5 Children, Steve Edward (Sylvia) Malolepszy of Tuscon, Arizona, Elaine Marie (Harry) Denham of St. Clairsville, Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Bianchin of Shadyside, Bonnie Jean (Mark) Prady of Baden, Pennsylvania and Wallace Joseph (Melody) Malolepszy of Shadyside; a sister, Sophia Love of Sarver, Pennsylvania; 6 grandchildren, Pamela Malolepszy, Carol Malolepszy, Susan Aydlett, Nathan Bianchin, Reuben Bianchin and Ryan Denham; 6 great grandchildren, Jennifer, Tamara, Sydney, Cole, Tyler and Miles.

Michael D. Maroney

MARONEY, Michael D. of St. Clairsville, Ohio, born Feb. 18, 1941 in Bellaire, Ohio son of John and Elizabeth Stemerick Maroney died Sunday, July 25th, 2010 in Wheeling Hospital after a courageous 3 year battle with cancer.

He was a 1960 graduate of St. John High School and a veteran of the US Army, having served in Germany.  He earned the highest honor in Physical Fitness competition while in Basic Training in Fort Jackson, SC in 1960.  He retired from Ohio Bell Telephone Company in 1995 with 32 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Pauline Miller of California and brother Patrick Maroney of Maui, Hawaii and Glendale, WV.

Michael is survived by his wife Judith Stefani Maroney, his daughter Erin Maroney Olexo, his son Matt Maroney (Lindy);  4 grandchildren, Bo Michael Olexo, Braden R. Olexo, Riley E. Maroney and Reese N. Maroney, all of St. Clairsville.

Also surviving are his brothers William (Doris) Maroney of Bridgeport, Dennis (Patti) Maroney of California, and sister Rose Maroney Kennelly of Warsaw, Ohio.  He is also survived by Mary Denham, his foster sister, daughter of Harry and Helen Hepner of Kinsman, Ohio, who preceded him in death.

His Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Maynard, Ohio on Wednesday, July 28th at 10:00 a.m. with Father Thomas Graven as the celebrant. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville, Ohio.  He had requested no visitation prior. Arrangements entrusted to Toothman Funeral Home.

Belmont County Council of American Legions will conduct Military Honor Services at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church following the Mass.

Betty U. Underwood Miller

MILLER, Betty Ursula Steele Underwood, 83, of St. Clairsville, died Jan. 8, 2010 at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry. Betty was born Nov. 1, 1926 in Key, Ohio, daughter of the late Howard Guy and Lucy Novella Fraley Steele.

She was a retired teachers aide from St. Clairsville Elementary School and was a devoted member of the St. Clairsville Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Russell Underwood in 1975; two brothers, Orville and Charles Steele and a sister, Bonnie Warner.

Surviving are her husband, Billy Miller of St. Clairsville; two daughters, Karen Dawn (Philip) Dunfee of Flushing and Dana Kaye (Ray) Ramsay of Belmont; two stepdaughters, Connie Sue (Art) Bliecher and Kathy Ann (Ritty) Maraldo both of Indiana; a stepson, Paul Edward (Chris) Miller of Indiana; two grandchildren, David (Joy) Dunfee of Flushing and Kristen (Mike) Higgenbotham of Belmont; 9 step grandchildren, Amanda, Edward and Jeffery Bliecher, Ryan, Matthew, Lindsay and Whitney Maraldo and Paul and John Miller all of Indiana; 5 great grandchildren, Matthew, Jacob, Dylan Guy, Adam and Evan.

Betty will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

George E. Miller

George E. Miller, 83 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Forest Hill Retirement Community in St. Clairsville.

He was born November 15, 1926 in Wheeling, West Virginia, a son of the late Howard Miller and Catherine Thompson Miller.

George was a retired machinist from Blaw Knox, a graduate of Wheeling High School and West Liberty College, a member of First Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville where he served as an Elder and Deacon, a U.S. Army veteran, a 50 year member of Belmont Lodge # 16 F&AM, 50 year member of Bridgeport #452 O.E.S., a life member of the Elks in Wheeling, Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville member, member of Osiris Temple of the Shrine in Wheeling where he served as the Commander of Legion of Honor and was a member of the Arab Patrol, Social Club, and Royal Order of Jesters, he was also a member of the El Tor Grotto in Wheeling.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Mintzer, Jenny Jerrome, and Shirley Newman; a brother, Tom Miller.

Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Margaret Doty Miller; a sister, Aletha Rucki of St. Clairsville; brothers, Howard (Dolly) Miller of Pittsburgh, Robert Miller of Florida; several nieces and nephews.

Merle Mozena

Mozena, Merle Catherine “Granny” Henthorn, 90 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Monday, March 15, 2010 at Wheeling Hospital.

She was born in Wheeling on April 21, 1919 a daughter of the late Deming Owen and Olive Jane Mozena Henthorn. 

Merle was a retired secretary for Gerrero Music Store in Wheeling, a member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church at Piedmont.  She was a former member and Past President of the Junior Women’s Club, Vice President of the Civic League and Past President of Philathea all of Warwood, WV.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Francis “Moe” Mozena; daughter, Carol Sue Sweeny; sisters, Mary O’Hare and Delilah Costa and brother Richard Henthorn.

She is survived by a daughter, Donna (Jim) Lallone and a son Mike (Becky) Mozena all of St. Clairsville; a sister, Edith Lewis of Shadyside; 6 grandchildren, Todd Sweeny, Chris (Gina) Bryan, Marty (Monica) Sweeny, Cody (Allison Conklin) Mozena, Ashley and David Lallone; 8 great grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, Brooke, Tori, Adrianne, and Jayden Bryan, Coren and Cooper Sweeny; great great granddaughter, Zoey Elizabeth Bryan; 13 nieces and nephews.

Draga Munas

Munas, Draga, 100, of Stewartsville, Ohio, died Friday, May 7, 2010 in Forest Hill Nursing Home, St. Clairsville.

She was born December 18, 1909 in Stewartsville, Ohio, daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Zatezalo Papich.

Draga was a homemaker, a member of Clarksburg United Methodist Church and a member of Weyer Chapter #515, Order of Eastern Star in Centerville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Gabby” Munas; 7 brothers, Mealy, Eli, Mike, George, Nick, Danny and Samuel Papich; and a sister, Sophie Papich.

Surviving are her brother, Rudy Papich of Stewartsville; and a niece, Marilyn Reardon.

George Neff

Neff, George E. 88 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling.

He was born at Jacobsburg, Ohio on July 29, 1921 a son of the late Harry and Ethel Douglas Neff.

George served as Sheriff of Belmont County for 16 years and was currently a Special Deputy for the department.  He was also a former employee of the Belmont Co. Engineers Office, Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, a security officer for the City Hospital, Bellaire and an Iron Worker for Shenango Steel,

He was a member of Thoburn United Methodist Church at St. Clairsville, a 50 year member of Weyer Lodge #541 F.& A.M. at Centerville, Ohio State University Varsity “O” Member, a precinct committeeman for the Democratic Party of Belmont County, and a life member of the Saints Club, the Sons of Italy of Bellaire and the Bellaire High School Alumni Assoc.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica Gongola Neff; his son Richard L. Neff; 7 brothers  and 1 sister.

He is survived by his daughters, Delores “Dolly” Springhetti, Barbara Stewart and Pamela Neff all of St. Clairsville; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville on Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m. with Masonic services at 6 p.m.  Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Bradley Call officiating.  Burial will in Jacobsburg Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the St. Clairsville Eagles.

Thomas E. Neuman

Thomas E. Neuman, 76 of Hidden Springs, St. Clairsville, Ohio died Sunday, July 11, 2010 in the Cleveland Clinic.

He was born May 10, 1934 in Wheeling, a son of the late Charles W. Neuman and Amelia Ford Neuman.

Tom was the former owner of Allied Plate Glass and Bellaire Paint and Glass, he also retired from the U.S. Navy and Olin Corp. He was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Wheeling, member and Past Master of Weyer Lodge #541 F&AM in Centerville, member of Ionic Lodge # 438 in Bellaire, Bellaire Council # 87 Royal & Select Masons, Bellaire Chapter # 107 Royal Arch Masons, Hope Commandery # 26 in Bridgeport, Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville, Osiris Temple of the Shrine in Wheeling, Osiris Legion of Honor, Ohio River Council # 63, Weyer Chapter # 515 OES in Centerville, American Legion Post # 33 in Martins Ferry, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5356 in St. Clairsville, Disabled American Veterans, Amateur Trapshooting Assoc., and Brooke County Sportsmen’s Club where he served as Vice President.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Delores Neuman, May Head, Dorothy Glasow, Nancy Davidson; brothers, Charles, William, Harry, James, & Wilbert Neuman; his beloved dog, Missy on June 24, 2010.

Surviving are his wife, Janet Albaugh Neuman; sisters, Betty Perry of California, Mary (Jim) Nicholson of Missouri, Florence Hartline, of Barnsville, Ohio.

Eva Margaret Opatrny, 93 of New Castle Road, died Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Emerald Pointe in Barnesville.

She was born March 27, 1917 in Provident, Ohio, a daughter of the late John Susac and Catherine Mauar Susac.

Eva was a homemaker, a Methodist, a member of the Belmont County Women’s Extension Group, and a 4-H Leader.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Opatrny, Sr.; a son, Frank Opatrny, Jr.; a daughter, Sandra Williams.

Surviving are two daughters, Elaine Gacek of Morristown, and Cathy Opatrny of Jerusalem; 7 grandchildren, Karen (Tom) Wallace, Zack (Connie) Gacek, Craig Gacek, Keeley Jo (Eric) Corrick, Ailsa (Cyndy) Vogelsang, Frank (Becca) Vogelsang, and Ben (Stephanie) Jones; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great great granddaughters.

Rudy Papich

PAPICH, Rudy, 97 of Stewartsville, Ohio died Sunday, July 25, 2010 at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry.

He was born January 15, 1913 in Stewartsville, a son of the late Samuel and Mary Zatezalo Papich.

Rudy was a retired electrician for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in Steubenville, a WWII Army veteran, member of the Barnesville VFW, Weyer Lodge # 541 F&AM in Centerville, and Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Mealy, Eli, Mike, George, Nick, Danny, and Samuel Papich; two sisters, Sophie Papich, and Draga Munas.

Surviving are a niece, Marilyn Reardon; nephew, Daniel Papich; best friend, Don Barnes.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Wednesday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 9 p.m. where services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Joe Blon officiating.

Burial will follow in Glencoe Cemetery.

Planey, Rita Eileen, 83 of Stewartsville, Ohio died Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Heartland-Lansing Nursing Home.

She was born at Bellaire, Ohio on September 23, 1926 a daughter of the late John and Alta Greenwood Shaver.

Rita was a homemaker,  a catholic by faith and a member of the Bellaire Eagles Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Planey;  a son, James Michael Planey; granddaughter, Becky Sabinsky; daughter-in-law, Becky Planey; sisters, Agnes Addison, Betty Major and Rose Mary Long; brothers, David, Paul, Dale and Fred Shaver and Anthony Boyle.

She is survived by her children, Karen (Jim) Howell of Stewartsville, Rick (Linda) Planey of Key, Rose (Chris) Wasko of Shadyside, Brenda (Bob) Gabel of Columbus, Ohio and Rita (Rick) Ofat of Bellaire; brothers Homer Shaver of Baltimore, MD and Charles Shaver of Landers, CA; a sister, Beverly (Pete) Christakis of St. Clairsville; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Martha P. Porter

Porter, Martha P., 66, of Galloway, Ohio, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 in Doctors Hospital West, Columbus, Ohio.

She was born February 19, 1944 in Bellaire, Ohio, daughter of the late Paul and Mary Margaret Gooch Wickizer.

Martha was a retired retail sales clerk and was a member of the St. Clairsville Alumni Association.

Surviving are her son, Mike (Mern) Porter of Columbus; two daughters, Amy (Gary) Ahlstrom of Marysville, Ohio and Lori (Mark) Thompson of Galloway, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Paul, Justin and Nathan Porter, Sterling, Laken and Griffin Ahlstrom and Abigail and Jacob Thompson.

James Pyle

James Basil “Jim or Jimmy” Pyle, 62 of Pineview 2 Group Home in Belmont, Ohio died Tuesday, January 5, 2010.

He was born February 22, 1947 in New Cumberland, WV, a son of the late James Orion Pyle and Edna Lucas Pyle.

James lived at home until 1983. After various residences he moved to Belmont Habilitation Center in St. Clairsville in 1987. He lived there until 2006 when he moved to the Pineview 2 Group Home where he remained until his death.

He attended Belco Works Workshop for several years and most recently Tomorrow’s Corner Day Program, both in St. Clairsville.

Jimmy had a vivid imagination. He told stories in great detail about hunting grizzly bears, shooting down the enemy from his airplane and he would discuss the war as reported on TV but in a different language, all his own. He enjoyed western memorabilia, cowboys, and John Wayne. He liked to listen and sing-along to John Denver music and other country songs.

Jimmy Pyle had a wonderful personality and many interests. He will be sadly missed by all of his friends.

Ramsay, James S. “Tiny”, 65 of Key, Ohio died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling.

He was born at Canton, Ohio on December 4, 1944 a son of the late Samuel and Olive Fern Doyle Ramsay.

Jim was a retired employee of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel’s Steubenville North and South Plants, a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church at Key and a life member of the National Rifle Association.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Alta Renee Ramsay; sisters, Bette Bays Langley and Lillian Bays Reese.

He is survived by his daughter, Samala Jane Lutman of Dillonvale, Ohio; a sister, Mary Lou Bays Reese of Bellaire; brother, John Koci of Key; grandchildren, Ramsay Alexander Dunn, Abagail Lutman and Blake Elizabeth Lutman and special friend, Betty Ramsay.

Rebecca-Hall, Clayton Wayne, 17, of Barnesville, Ohio died Saturday, July 3, 2010 in Quaker City.

He was born in Barnesville on July 21, 1992, son of David Hall and Tina Rebecca-Hall.

Clayton was a student at the Belmont-Harrison Career Center and was a member of the Hillcrest Bible Church.

Surviving are his mother, Tina Rebecca-Hall; his father, David Hall; three brothers, Austin Passmore, Curtis Hall and Austin Dougherty; maternal grandparents, Louis and  Jane Rebecca of Warnock; paternal grandparents, David and Ruth Hall of St. Clairsville.

John Riddle

Riddle, John L., 81 of Jacobsburg, Ohio died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born at Youngstown, Ohio on July 17, 1928 a son of the late Norris “Bill” Riddle and Galdys Purtiman Riddle.

John was a retired electrical supervisor for the former Ohio Edison R. E. Burger Plant at Dilles Bottom and a former Ohio State Highway Patrolman.  He was a member of the Jacobsburg United Methodist Church, a former member of the Smith Township Volunteer Fire Dept. and a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Dennis Riddle.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Beck Riddle; a brother Bill Riddle of Texas; grandchildren, Heather and Kevin Cornell of Huber Heights, Ohio, Robert and Robin Riddle of Dayton, Ohio and a great granddaughter, Jacqui Cornell.

At John’s request there will be no visitation.  Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with Rev. Richard Wilson officiating.  Entombment will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Riley, Nancy Jean Watenpool, 75 of Barton, Ohio died Saturday, February 20, 2010 in Wheeling Hospital.

She was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on February 26, 1934, daughter of the late Harry and Hulena Castilow Watenpool.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Harry Allen Minch; a brother, Bill Watenpool; a sister, Evelyn Burris and a great granddaughter, Samantha Woolwine.

Surviving are her husband, Anthony F. Riley, Sr.; a daughter, Lee Ann Salco of Martins Ferry; three sons, Anthony F. “Pete” Riley, Jr. of Barton, G. Michael Riley of St. Clairsville and James E. Riley of Jacobsburg; two sisters, Peggy McGreal of Beaver Falls, Pa and Mary Ann Slaughenhoupt of Florida; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Private Services were held at the convenience of the family. Burial was in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.

Eugene D. Scott

Scott, Eugene D., 85, of Bannock, Ohio, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at home.

He was born March 26, 1924 in Ward, West Virginia, son of the late Claude Tyree Scott and Ida Mae Adamson Scott.

Eugene was retired from Valley Machine in Martins Ferry and he was a barber.  He was a member of Lloydsville United Methodist Church. Eugene was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II.  He served in A Company 325th Glider Infantry Regiment and was trained in the 17th and 82nd Airborne Divisions. He was a member of the VFW Post 5356 and formerly a member of the American Legion Post 159 both in St. Clairsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Paul, Charles, Edward and Farris Scott; and infant sister, Cleo.

Surviving are his wife, Stella Ainsworth Scott; a son, Eugene Scott and his wife Gena of Bannock; 2 granddaughters, Hannah and Elizabeth Scott; several nieces and nephews.

Elroy Vernon Sells

Elroy Vernon Sells, 91 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Thursday, May 20, 2010 at his home.

He was born May 22, 1918 in Belmont, Ohio, a son of the late Roy A. Sells and Lillian Marmie Sells.

He was a retired foreman from Consolidation Coal Company with 42 years of service. He was a Christian, and an Army veteran of WWII.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Ballog Sells; sisters, Edna Jackson, Betty Sells Frasier; a brother, Samuel Arnold Sells.

Surviving are a son, David Sells with whom he resided in St. Clairsville; a daughter, Gloria Sells of Yorkville; a sister, Doris Jackson of Orlando, FL.

She was born February 14, 1946 in Bellaire, a daughter of the late Kenneth Laverne Neitzelt and Karen Lucille Brown Neitzelt.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Eugene Snider, Sr.; a brother, Kenneth Laverne Neitzelt, Jr.; 6 infant brothers and sisters.

Surviving are her children, Sharon (Dennis) Fletcher of Glencoe, Richard Eugene Snider, Jr. of Columbus, and William (Cari) Snider of St. Clairsville; a sister, Kathy (Bill) Goddard of Surfside, SC; grandchildren, Nicholas Fletcher and Shay Snider.

Mary Anna Sykora, 88 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Forest Hill Retirement Center in St. Clairsville.

She was born December 23, 1921 in Bradley, Ohio, a daughter of the late Max Bednarek and Apallonia Klapuchova Bednarek.

She was a Methodist, and member of the Czechoslovakian Society of America and the Czechoslovakian Skyline Radio Club.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Sykora; a son, Arthur L. Sykora; brothers, Max, Victor, Frank, and Ed Bednarek; sisters, Alice Wilczynski, Betty Kaurich, and Stella Ruzek.

Surviving are a daughter, Doris Truchan of St. Clairsville; a sister, Olga Brodginski of Salem, Ohio; sister-in-law, Margaret Bednarek of Mingo Junction; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and a great great grandson.

Virginia Taylor

Virginia Julius Hehman Taylor went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 20, 2010.

Virginia was born July 5, 1917 in Terre Haute, Indiana, a daughter of the late Cora Nina Gee Hehman and Theodore Herman Hehman.

Virginia graduated from Union Hospital, Terre Haute, Indiana, as a Registered Nurse. She was a private duty nurse and worked at Ohio Valley General Hospital. She volunteered at Ohio Valley Hospice. She was on the staff of the St. Clairsville Library and a charter member of the Friends of the Library. She was a member of the St. Clairsville Eastern Star.

Virginia was an active member of the East Richland Friends Church. She not only supported church ministries, missionaries, building programs, but especially financially and prayerfully the East Richland Christian School since its inception 26 years ago. She was an active evangelist in that she would have prayer with you and before you left she would ask ”Where do you expect to spend eternity?”

Virginia read many books on religion and politics and enjoyed discussions on the various subjects with family and friends. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and tried to encourage them along their paths in life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth McAlpine Taylor and her brother, Donald Hehman.

She is survived by a son, David McAlpine Taylor of St. Clairsville; a daughter, Nancy Carnes of Barnesville; grandchildren, Karen (Jim) Large of Belmont, Jeffrey James Carnes, Penny (John) Govekar, Heather Taylor all of Columbus, Christopher David Taylor of Cannonsburg, PA; a brother, Theodore (Ozzie) Hehman of Valparaiso, IN; great granddaughters, Morgan Large of Columbus and Rebekah Large of Belmont; many cousins in Indiana, relatives and friends across the country.

Margaret “Peg” Waterkotte

Waterkotte, Margaret “Peg”, 79, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died June 5, 2010 in Liza’s Place, Wheeling, West Virginia.

She was born February 12, 1931 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Arthur and Marguerite Flannagan O’Donnell.

Peg served 30 years in social services in Pittsburgh and in Belmont County. She retired as the Executive Director of the Belmont-Harrison-Monroe Mental Health and Recovery Board. Peg also served on the boards of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Belmont County and Florence Crittendon Home.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond J. Waterkotte and her daughter, Jennifer Ann Waterkotte.

Surviving are her two sons, Joseph Waterkotte and Michael Waterkotte and his wife Laurie Williams, grandson, Christopher Williams Waterkotte, and the children of Catherine and George Limegrover, all of Pittsburgh, PA.

She was born January 18, 1933 in Jacobsburg, Ohio, daughter of Harry and Luanna Albertine Crum Tomlinson.

Bonnie retired from the Family Market in Centerville and was a former employee of the Times Leader in Martins Ferry. She was a member of the Centerville Christian Church and the Smith Township Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Pollock and Erma Perkins; four brothers, Joe, Donald, Edison and Clinton Tomlinson.

Surviving are her husband, Donald L. Wells; three children, Kitty Jo (Mike) Lloyd of Hannibal, Ohio, Susan Lynn (Rodney) Britton of Catlettsburg, Kentucky and Robert H. West, Rayford Andrew, Sr., 92 of McClainsville Rd., Bellaire, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 11, 2010.  He was the son of the late George Otho and Alta Eugenia (Clary) West.  He was born March 17, 1917 in Piedmont, Guernsey Co., OH.

He was a member of Coalbrook Presbyterian Church at Neffs, Ohio, a graduate of Bellaire High School class of 1935 and an avid fan of the BIG REDS.  He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a life member of VFW Post 626 in Bellaire.  He was retired from the former International Harvester at Shadyside.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Katherine Jane (Kuntz) West; a brother Elmer E. West of Sarasota, FL; a sister, Anna Harbaugh of Bellaire, OH’ a niece, Judy (West) Hobbs of Georgia; a granddaughter, Alta Renee Ramsay and a dear friend, James “Tiny” Ramsay.

Courtney Nichole White

White, Courtney Nichole of St. Clairsville, Ohio.  My girl, my angel, my life.  The strongest person I know.  You will be in our hearts every moment of every day.  You touched so many lives.  We love you and you will be missed forever.  She lost her battle with cancer on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at the age of 21.

Blessed daughter of Cristy White and Phillip White.  Sister of Levi Leeper and granddaughter of Leonard White and Margaret Smith.  Loved by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Flushing, with Father Frederick Kihm as celebrant. Burial will follow in Rock Hill Cemetery, Flushing.

 

Annabelle Woodford

Woodford, Annabelle, 78, of St. Clairsville, died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at East Ohio Regional Hospital.

She was born August 28, 1931 in Glen Robbins, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver T. Woodford Sr.; a daughter, Edith Jefferies; a sister, Mitzi VanDyne; 4 brothers, Willard Donley, Bob, Mike and Jim Higgins.

Surviving are her four sons, Thomas (Carol) Woodford of Harrisville, Gary Woodford of West Union, WVa., Charles (Norma) Woodford and Oliver (Donna) Woodford Jr. both of St. Clairsville; a brother, Fred Higgins of Glen Robbins; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and again on Saturday from 12 p.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Bradley Call officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.

Janet Ellen Yardley

Yardley, Janet Ellen, 75, of Bridgeport, Ohio, died Monday, February 15, 2010 in Northside Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia.

She was born June 10, 1934 in Key, Ohio, daughter of the late John Maurice Harvey and Sara Hazel Ramsay Harvey.

She was a retired elementary school teacher from Martins Ferry City Schools.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Yardley.

Surviving are two sons, John Yardley of Roswell, Georgia and William H. Yardley of Suwanee, Georgia; a sister, Helen Tarbet of Key, Ohio; and a granddaughter, Emilie Yardley.

Services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel in Pleasant Grove, Ohio, with Wayne Clark officiating. Entombment will follow. Arrangements are entrusted to Toothman Funeral Home.
