AUGUSTUS ANDERSON

Augustus C. “Gus” Anderson, 80 of Warnock Rd., St. Clairsville died Thursday January 5, 2006 at the home of his daughter with his family at his side.

He was born January 27, 1925 in Jamestown, New York. A son of the late Bruce Anderson and Faye Wright Anderson.

He was a retired employee of GTE (now Verizon), an Army Air Corp veteran of WWII serving on B-17s with the 8th Air Force out of England, a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America - Northern Panhandle Region, St. Clairsville American Legion Post #159, 8th Air Force Historical Society, CWA, and volunteered at OVMC in Wheeling.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Rapp Anderson; daughter, Sharon Mamie; brothers, Bruce, Norman, William, Lawrence, Jack, and Harvey; sisters, Mary Lou Stryjwski, and Betty Griffin.

Surviving are his wife Sherry Coss Anderson; children, Lynn (Frank) Donda, Eric C. Anderson, and Janice (Kevin) Mudrak all of St. Clairsville; sister, Marguerite Murowsky of Willoughby, Ohio; 7 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; also by Sherry’s children, Maleah Rhodes-Moon and Christopher McAninch; several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday  from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Wayne Ickes officiating. Burial follows in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.

The Belmont County Council of American Legions will conduct services in the funeral home at 12:50 p.m. Saturday.

HARRY W. ARNOLD Sr.

Harry Walter Arnold Sr., age 62, of St. Clairsville died Sunday, April 16, 2006 at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling.  He was born in Huntington, Pennsylvania on August 26, 1943, son of the late Charles Melvin Arnold Sr. and Frances Mary Hall Arnold.

Harry was retired from the Saginaw Mining Company; a retired manager for Bel-Claire Gardens Apartments and retired employee of Lowe’s all in St. Clairsville.  He was a U. S. Navy and U. S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War.  He was a member of the Marine Corps League.  Harry was a former Chief and EMT of the Maynard Community Volunteer Fire Dept. and former Maynard Little League Baseball coach.

In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by a son, SSgt. Richard Lynn “Rik” Morgan Jr. and a grandson, Zachary Mayhugh.

Surviving are his wife, Donna Green Arnold; two sons, Robert C. (Taylor) Morgan of Kansas City, Missouri, Hank (Amanda) Arnold of Flushing; two daughters, Anita (Tony) Kalman of Urichsville, Ohio and Bonita (Shawn) Girty of Bethesda; daughter-in-law, Diana Morgan of Maynard; fourteen grandchildren; two sisters, Charlotte Underkoffer of Camp Hill, PA and Dawn Dougal of Altoona, PA; and a brother, Charlie Arnold of Camp Hill, PA; special sister-in-law, Linda (Paul) Kyanko and special brother-in-law, Bill (Karen) Green.

Family and friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 1 p.m. until time of services at 3 p.m. with Chaplain (Col) Charles Flesher officiating.  Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Holly Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove.  There will be a dinner at the Maynard PNA Lodge following the services on Friday.

 

DONALD R. "Mutt" AULT

Donald R. “Mutt” Ault, age 86, of Centerville, Ohio, died Saturday, October 28, 2006 at  Park Health Center in St. Clairsville.  He was born in Centerville, October 16, 1920, a son of the late Andrew and Mary Wells Ault.

Donald was an Army veteran serving in Japan during World War II.  He was a farmer and retired from Union Local Schools as a bus driver, and from Ohio Valley Paving as a construction worker.  He was a member of the Centerville Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian Ault of Centerville; two sons, Larry Ault and his wife Bonnie of Lancaster, Ohio and James Ault and his wife Carol of Athens, Ohio; one daughter, Kathy Halbert and her husband Fred of Parkersburg, West Virginia; sister-in-law, Kay Hess and her husband Jim of Senecaville, Ohio; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.  Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Meek, Joe, Clarence and Charles Ault; and two sisters, Clara Delaney and Evelyn Young.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. where services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with John Martin officiating.  Burial will follow at Concord Cemetery in Centerville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Smith Township Volunteer Fire Dept. or the Centerville Christian Church.

DANTE BARR

Dante “Daniel Vincent” “Dan V.” Barr, 87 of Glencoe, Ohio died Wednesday August 2, 2006 at Belmont Community Hospital in Bellaire.

He was born June 9, 1919 in Glencoe, a son of the late Vincent Barr and Filomena Archangeli Barr.

He was a retired coal miner, a Catholic, and member of the Masonic Lodge and Shrine.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Mazzie; and two infant sisters.

Surviving are his wife, Rossie Grant Vaughn Barr; two daughters, Marcia Garcia of Powhatan Point, and Anna Marie Barr of Bellaire; three step-sons, Thomas, Paul, and Kenith Vaughn of Shadyside; 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from noon until time of service at 2 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg with Father Gary Zalenski officiating. Burial follows in Glencoe Cemetery.

 

ALISHA BARTON LABICHE

Alisha Yvonne Barton Labiche, 17 of Stewartsville, Ohio, beloved daughter and granddaughter went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 24, 2006 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown. She was born January 30, 1989 at Wheeling a daughter of Shawna Gargala Labiche and Okie Barton, Jr.

She was a member of the Clarksburg United Methodist Church

Alisha was preceded in death by her great grandparents Elwood and Laura DeVault and Clarence and Wanda Clark.

She is survived by her parents Shawna Gargala Labiche and Mica A. Labiche of Stewartsville and Okie Barton, Jr. of Stewartsville; grandparents Cheryll and John Gargala of Warnock and Marge and Okie Barton, Sr. of Stewartsville; brothers Mica, Noah and Joshua Labiche and Okie Barton, III.

Family and friends may call at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville on Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. where services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dean Myers officiating.  A private committal service will be held in Warnock Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

JANE BEAL

Jane Simmons Beal, 94 of Lafferty and Crestview Health Care Center in St. Clairsville died Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Crestview.

She was born January 26, 1912 in Byesville, a daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Simmons.

She was a homemaker and mother of six children, A Pentecostal by faith and member of Harbor of Hope Church, St. Clairsville. She loved gardening and often said that flowers and plants were her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Virgil Beal; a son, Alton Parker Beal; brothers and sisters, Alice, Tommy, Hilda, Mary and Danny.

Surviving are a daughter, Iona Mae Jendrusik (Joseph) of Midway; four sons, Virgil Beal, Jr. (Rose) of Lafferty, James Beal of Lafferty, David Beal (Judy) of New Athens, Edward Beal (Jan) of West Lafayette, Ohio; a brother John Simmons (Virginia); 19 grandchildren, and several great and great great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dean Myers officiating.  Burial follows in Unity Cemetery, New Athens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

 

PHYLLIS BLANCHE BEALL

Phyllis Blanche Beall, 68, of Bellaire died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006 at Arbors West Nursing Home in West Jefferson, Ohio.  She was born October 3, 1937 in Lancaster, Ohio, daughter of the late Elmer Burton Beall and Leva Leana Bumgardner Beall.

She was a retired nursing assistant from the Bellaire Clinic.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Terri Deneen Beall; her aunt that raised her, Blanche Street; and two brothers, Gerald and George Richard Beall.

Surviving are her granddaughter, Jessica Buckman of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a grandson, Alex Laramay of Virginia; and a sister-in-law,  Rita Beall of Neffs.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Friday from 2 to 4 and from 6 p.m. until time of services at 8 p.m. with Rev. Homer Harden officiating.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.

 

GWENDOLYN BECKETT

Gwendolyn “Gwen” Beckett passed away on September 19, 2006 at the age of 76.

Gwen was born in Steubenville, Ohio on May 19, 1930, a daughter of the late John William Beckett and Ida Marie Flohr Beckett.

She lived at the Belmont Habilitation Center in St. Clairsville from 1982 until June of 2006 and was recently living at Pineview 1b group home in Belmont, Ohio.

Gwen was a tiny lady with a lot of spirit. She had many health complications in recent years but still enjoyed the attention of others and those familiar to her. She was mostly content with the happenings in her home but had a way of shaking her finger at you if she was displeased. She also enjoyed observing those around her and listening to soothing music.

Gwen will be greatly missed by her friends and peers.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Friday from 1:30 p.m. until time of service at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Wenger officiating. Burial follows in Oak View Cemetery, St. Clairsville.

 

HILMA E. BETHEL

Hilma E. Bethel, age 94, of St. Clairsville, died Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital.

She was born on February 13, 1912 in Holloway, Ohio, daughter of the late Albert M. and Martha Fritter Hoskinson.

Hilma was a member of Holloway United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald J. Bethel; a son, Donald Wayne Bethel; and two sisters, Effie Helter and Duanna Hoskinson.

Surviving are two sons, Alan L. Bethel and his wife Carole of Atlanta, Georgia and Gary L. Bethel and his wife Cathy of Indianapolis, Indiana; a daughter, Betty J. Kourkounakis of St. Clairsville; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, where services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m., with Rev. Robert Merritt officiating.  Burial will follow at Rock Hill Cemetery in Flushing.

 

MARY ELIZABETH "BETTY" BIBBEE

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Bibbee, 74, of St. Clairsville died Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital.  She was born in Neffs, Ohio on May 21, 1932, daughter of the late Charles Howard Howell and Margaret Ellen Crymble Howell.

Betty was a member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in St. Clairsville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Bibbee Sr. in 1998.

Surviving are her children, Debra (Joseph) Osisek of Orlando, Florida, Robert L. (Lori) Bibbee Jr. of Maumee, Ohio and Penny (Lon) Janezic of St. Clairsville; seven grandchildren, Dustin and Sean Janezic both of St. Clairsville, Ryan Saffell of Orlando, Florida, Mandy Luke of Edgerton, Ohio, Lori Florence of Defiance, Ohio, Ashley Grandy of Edgerton, Ohio and Lindsey Bibbee of Leo, Indiana; six great grandchildren; and two sisters, Nancy Givens of Key Ridge, Ohio and Beverly Devorace of New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, where services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Laurie Armstrong officiating.  Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in St. Clairsville.

 

ADELBERT BLACK

Adelbert C. Black, 81 of Centerville went home to be with his wife, Lizzie Fador Balck on April 1, 2006. He died surrounded by his family.

He was born March 2, 1925, was a member of the Belmont Ridge Christian Church, and the Centerville Senior Center. Del had a love of photography and trains.

He lived with his niece, Frances Saunders and her husband Henry in Centerville and was formerly from the Cleveland area.

He leaves behind several nieces and nephews in the local area.

Friends will be received on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until time of service at 8 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville.

MARY R. BLACK

Mary R. Black, 67, of Fairpoint, Ohio died Friday, July 28, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital.  She was born in Bannock, Ohio on August 27, 1938, daughter of the late Louis and Doris Moore Senakievich.

Mary was retired housekeeper at the Belmont County Court House in St. Clairsville and for many families in the St. Clairsville area.  She was a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Pleasant Grove.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Earl McIntyre; a sister, Darlene; and a brother, Louis.

Surviving are her husband, Stanley Black; daughters, Bev McIntyre of the home and Lori (Frank) Jurovcik of St. Clairsville; grandchildren, Adam, Ryan and Matthew Stan-Lee Jurovcik; sisters, Carol Newland of Mentor, Ohio, Linda (Stanley) Robbins of Lafferty, Tibby Beals of Bethesda and Phyllis (Roger) Ewing of Lafferty; brothers, Roger (Marlene) Senakievich of Bannock, Joe (Barb) Senakievich of Flushing, Dale Senakievich of St. Clairsville and John Senakievich of Texas; sister-in-law, Helen Staskevich of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville.  Visitation will also be held on Monday, from 11 a.m. until time of services at 12 Noon at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Pleasant Grove, Ohio, with Rev. Paul Crane and Rev. Dan Nelson officiating.  Burial will follow at Longview Cemetery in New Athens.

 

WILLIAM L. BLON

William L. “Bill” Blon, age 73, of Stewartsville, died Thursday, August 10, 2006 at Belmont Community Hospital in Bellaire.  He was born October 29, 1932 in Stewartsville, Ohio, son of the late Leslie “Pete” and Delcie Clear Blon.

Bill was a retired employee from the former Rodefer-Gleason Glass Co. in Bellaire; he was a former employee of the Bellaire City Hospital for 22 years; he was a member of the First Christian Church in Wheeling where he served as a sexton and was in charge of maintenance.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by brothers, Fred and Jack Blon.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Beatty Blon; six children, Sharon Sue Gatten of Hagerstown, Maryland, William L. Blon Jr. of Cadiz, David Eugene Blon of Bethesda, Delcie Ann Blon of Weirton, John Michael Blon of Neffs, and Dorthea L. Orr of Bethesda; two brothers, Gerald “Joe” Blon and John Blon both of Stewartsville; a sister, Marilyn Kemper of Key Ridge; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Private services held at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements by Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the First Christian Church in Wheeling.

 

DICK BOWERY

Richard F. “Dick” Bowery, 77 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Sunday, March 19, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born at Wheeling on October 2, 1928 a son of the late Ira Cecil Bowery and Marjorie O'Hara Bowery Williams.

Dick was retired owner/operator of the former Island Sheet Metal and Roofing Co. at Wheeling.  He was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, St. Clairsville and VFW Post 5356, St. Clairsville.  He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and the former commanding officer of the U.S. Coast Guard at Wheeling Island.  Dick was the holder of a private pilot license and was an avid fisherman.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Betty E. Bowery and a brother William Bowery.

He is survived by his daughters Cindy Pearcy and Linda Frazier both of Shadyside; grandchildren Crystal Pearcy and Candace Pearcy both of Shadyside and Timothy Frazier of St. Clairsville; brothers John Bowery of Washington, DC, Robert Bowery of Cincinnati, David Bowery of Maysville, KY and Thomas Bowery of New Port Richey, FL.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville where services will be held Wednesday at Noon with Rev. Ronald Wilfong officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling.

Belmont Co. Council of the VFW will conduct military honors in the funeral home Wednesday at 11:45 a.m.

CHARLES S. BROOKS

Charles S. Brooks (Chang), 76, passed away September 3, 2006 at his residence in Beallsville, Ohio.

He was born January 1, 1930 in Jacobsburg, Ohio a son of the late Carl and Edith Brown Brooks.

Charles was retired from Lucent Technologies.  He was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean War; he was a member of the American Legion Post # 768; a member of the Korean War Veterans and he was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Helen Ruza Brooks; two sons, Robert Brooks and his wife Jenny of Oakwood, Ohio and Douglas Brooks and his wife Lou of Cloverdale, Ohio; a daughter, Mona Brooks of Washington; three granddaughters; four great grandchildren.

In accordance with his wishes, Charles' services were private and conducted at the family's convenience with Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg in charge of arrangements.

MARGARET BROOKS

Margaret D. Brooks, 83 of Powhatan Point, Ohio died Thursday, November 2, 2006 at Belmont Community Hospital, Bellaire.

She was born at Powhatan Point on June 28, 1923 a daughter of the late Everett and Vida Wheeler Armann.

Margaret was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Brooks a daughter, Wilda Jackson; brothers Oscar, Roy and John Armann and a sister Lois Loomis.

She is survived by a son, Ronnie Brooks of Powhatan Point; daughters Abbie Krempasky, Margie Phillips and Virginia Brooks all of Powhatan Point and Esther Franklin of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; sisters Ruth Hale of Spring City, Maryland; Evelyn Brooks of Beallsville; Mary Sandlin of Miamisburg, Ohio and Jean Galavich of Powhatan Point; 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Saturday 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home, Jacobsburg, Ohio where services will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Rick Hendrik officiating.  Burial will follow in Powhatan Cemetery.

 

FLOYD G. BROWN

Floyd G. Brown, age 67, of Shadyside, Ohio, died Sunday, February 5, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling.  He was born February 23, 1938 in Powhatan Point, son of the late Samuel and Effie French Brown.

Floyd was a retired employee from the North American Coal Company, Powhatan # 3 Mine.  He was a member of the Grandview Christian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marge Baker; an infant sister; two brothers, Sam and Loren Brown.

He is survived by four children, Deanna (Starling) Boston of Armstrongs Mills, Mark (Julie) Brown, Steve Brown all of Shadyside and Teresa (Allen) Hartley of Triadelphia, West Virginia; his former wife, Katherine Brown; two brothers, Glenn Brown of Bridgeport and Lou Brown of California; three sisters, Ruby Leow Boetticher of Florida, Flossie Simonetti of Steinersville and Lou Ann Mattone of Woodsfield; ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg, Ohio where services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m., with Wayne Clark officiating.  Burial will follow in Armstrong Cemetery, Armstrongs Mills, Ohio.

 

LARRY L. BUMGARDNER

Larry Lee Bumgardner, 61, of St. Clairsville, died Saturday, September 23, 2006 at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry.

He was born July 24, 1945 in Stewartsville, Ohio, son of the late Clark Bumgardner and Gladys Wheeler Bumgardner Wilson.

Larry was owner and operator of Leeway Products Inc. for 25 years.  He was a former employee of Clifford Motors in St. Clairsville.  He was a member of Thoburn United Methodist Church in St. Clairsville.  Larry was a charter member of the St. Clairsville Kiwanis Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Bumgardner and his stepfather, Rev. Orville O. Wilson.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sherry D. Clifford Bumgardner; two daughters, Joyce (Jim) McCollough of Palmyra, Virginia and Kim (Bishop) Hadley of Sussex, Wisconsin; a son, Todd (Vanessa) Bumgardner of Bellefontaine, Ohio; a granddaughter, Jackie McCollough; a grandson, Jimmy McCollough; a sister, Sue (Pat) Moeller of Tucson, Arizona; a brother, Rodney (Edith) Bumgardner of Statesville, North Carolina and a sister-in-law, Joan Bumgardner of Falls Church, Virginia.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. where services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m., with Rev. David Tosi and Wayne Weber officiating.  Burial will follow in Glencoe Cemetery.

LORETTA BUONAMICI

Loretta M. Buonamici, 67 of Bannock, Ohio died Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at her home.

She was born at St. Clairsville on January 1, 1939 a daughter of the late Charles and Frances Edmiston Fulton.

Loretta was a Licensed Practical Nurse having retired from Park Health Center with 27 years of service.  She was a member of the First Christian Church at Martins Ferry and faithfully attended Bannock United Methodist Church.  Loretta was an accomplished artist at painting and a poet having had several of her works published.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers Clarence “Bud” Fulton, William Fulton, Charles Fulton, Lawrence Fulton and Wilbur Fulton and sisters Margaret Gillespie and Rella Bland.

She is survived by her husband Domenick Buonamici; son Don and wife Robin Buonamici of Uniontown; daughter Diana and husband Robert Twarog of Flushing; brother Robert and wife Mary Fulton of St. Clairsville; grandchildren Kayla and Dominique Buonamici, Ryan and wife Crystal Twarog and Brendon Twarog; several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, June 22, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. where services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ken Kelley officiating.  Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.

DONALD BURGEY

Donald D. Burgey, 73 of Wilmington, North Carolina formerly of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at Wilmington.

He was born September 11, 1932 a son of the late Emmett Harold Burgey and Margaret Elizabeth Hakin Burgey.

Don was a retired Staff Sergeant with the United States Marine Corps having served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars with nearly 23 years of service and a retired police officer with the St. Clairsville Police Department having served for 21 years.  He was a member of the Belmont-Monroe Lodge #6 Fraternal Order of Police, Belmont Lodge #16 F.& A.M. at St. Clairsville and American Legion Post #159 at St. Clairsville

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lee Ann Taylor Burgey.

Don is survived by his wife, Ethel Zinser Burgey; a son, Donald D. Burgey, Jr. of South Carolina; a daughter, Marla Kay Gross of St. Clairsville; a sister, Delores Marie Burkett of Andalusia, Alabama; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville with Fraternal Order of Police services at 6 p.m. and Masonic services following at 6:15 p.m.  Services will be held Monday  at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.

Full military honors will be conducted at the gravesite by the Belmont County Council of the American Legion.

DENISE M. CARSON

Denise Marie Carson, age 50, of St. Clairsville, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  She was born at Follansbee, West Virginia on June 4, 1956, a daughter of Charles Diserio and Antoinette Suppa Diserio Carson.

Denise was a former secretary at the Belmont Correctional Institution in St. Clairsville. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Howard Carson.

In addition to her mother, Antoinette Carson of Mansfield, Ohio, Denise is survived by a son, Jerad Wellman of St. Clairsville, Ohio; a sister, Amy Carson of Mansfield, Ohio; two brothers, Charlie Carson of Cranberry, Pennsylvania and Chad Carson of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, where services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with Father Thomas Chillog officiating.

 

TOM “ZEKE” CARSON

Tom E. “Zeke” Carson, 82, of Bellaire, Ohio died Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale, West Virginia.

He was born September 24, 1924 in Bellaire, Ohio, son of the late Tom Carson and Stella Steed Carson Glasgow.

Zeke was a retired painter from painters local # 91.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Leona E. “Granny” Carson; two daughters, Kathy Sue Schramm and Patty Ann Moodispaw; an infant son, Edward Lee Carson; a sister, Roberta Starky and a brother, Philip Glasgow.

Surviving are a son, Tommy L. (Debbie) Carson of Bellaire; two daughters, Cindy (Mick) McGuire of Neffs and Gloria (Glen) McEndree of Bridgeport; three brothers, David Carson of Illinois, James Glasgow of Texas and Robert Glasgow of Mt. Pleasant, Ohio; two sisters, Catherine Robertson of Pleasant Grove, Ohio and Jolinda Bundy of Newcomerstown, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

HAROLD V. CLARK

Harold V. Clark, age 84, of Country Club Retirement Center in Bellaire, Ohio, died Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling.  He was born November 2, 1921 in Bellaire, Ohio, son of the late William and Elva Gatten Clark.

Harold was a retired employee from the Ormet Corporation.  He was a member of the Bellaire Eagles Aerie # 371;  a member of the Bellaire IAC; and a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha E. Porter Clark; three brothers, William, Roy and Peck Clark; four sisters, Dorcas Grimes, Willa Butler, Ethel Kinder and Beulah Dunlap.

He is survived by two sons, Rodney (Charlotte) Clark and Wayne Clark both of St. Clairsville; a sister, Opal Steele of Westerville; three grandchildren, Layla Clark of Maui, Hawaii, Natalie Clark of St. Clairsville and Christopher Clark of St. Clairsville; several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation.  Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements by Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville.

HELEN CLARK

Helen Borovich Clark, 76 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Saturday, June 3, 2006 at her home.

She was born at St. Clairsville on January 26, 1930 a daughter of the late Roman and Mary Moroski Borovich.

Helen was retired from the former Imperial Glass of Bellaire after 37 years of service.  She was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church at St. Clairsville, the National Imperial Glass Collectors and the National Cambridge Collectors.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William Ross Clark, sisters Sophia Ruble, Mary Trytko and Anna Ball and brother, Roman Borovich.

She is survived by brothers John Borovich and Stanley Borovich both of St. Clairsville and Henry Borovich of Glencoe; sisters Pauline Kesterson of Cambridge, Sheila Hughes of Bellaire, Wanda Bunting of Barnesville, Mary Bumgardner of Warnock, Frances Beckett of Bellaire, and Jeanne Sayre of Belmont; a very special niece, Barbara Jean Trytko of St. Clairsville and several other nieces and nephews.

Members of the family will receive friends on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville where services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Laurie Armstrong officiating.  Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.

James W. Clifford, 80, of St. Clairsville, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006 at his home.

He is the father of Sherry Bumgardner of St. Clairsville; a brother, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Joseph Robert “Bob” Coe, 65 of Warnock, Ohio died Tuesday, December 12, 2006 in Park Health Center, St. Clairsville.

He was born September 17, 1941 at Warnock a son of the late Joseph Wilson Coe and Dorothy Mae Hoots Coe.

Bob was a retired coal miner from the Oglebay Norton Captina Mine and Y&O Allison Mine.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 sons, Ricky and Bob Coe.

He is survived by his children Diana Dillon of Morristown, Ohio; Sherrie Funkhouser and Leroy (Ruth) Coe all of St. Clairsville and Timmy (Julie) Coe of Harrisville; a sister Shirley (Ed) Heath of Warnock; a brother Dave Coe of Belmont; 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

BOB COEN

Robert Carl “Bob” Coen, 84 of Brilliant, Ohio died Monday, December 25, 2006 at the Carriage Inn of Steubenville.

He was born at Warnock, Ohio on May 20, 1922 a son of the late James Thomas and Myrtle M. Strahl Coen.

Bob was a retired steel worker from the former Trans-Buckeye Steel Company at Steubenville and was a member of American Legion Post #632 at Glencoe, Ohio and the Foresters Club at Lansing, Ohio.  He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a protestant by faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers; Raymond, Lawrence, Woodrow, John and Kenneth Coen and a sister, Esther Jeffers.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Clark Coen; a daughter Marsha Lynn Cerra of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; a brother, Ralph Coen of Brilliant and a sister, Ruth Davidson of Woodsfield, Ohio.

R. DAVID COUTTS

R. David Coutts, 72 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at his home.

He was born March 24, 1934 in Ashtabula, Ohio, a son of the late Hugh G. Coutts and Hazel A. Hegfield Coutts.

David was a retired employee of Consolidation Coal Company’s Controller Department in Washington, PA. He was a member of Thoburn United Methodist Church in St. Clairsville where he also served as a choir member.

Surviving are his wife Judy A. Ellis Coutts; two sons, Gary David Coutts of Lexington, KY., and Greg Alan Coutts of Oak Forest, IL; a brother, Hugh Donald Coutts of Ashtabula, Ohio; two grandchildren, Courtney and Colin.

Ronald Vernon Cross, 59 of Willow Grove Rd., St. Clairsville died Sunday August 19, 2006 at Willow Grove.

He was born July 26, 1947 in Stewartsville, Ohio, a son of the late Jesse E. Cross and Thelma Whiteman Cross.

Ronald was a former employee of National Belt Service in Wheeling and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Francis “Tex”, Jolly “Buzzy”, Richard and Robert Cross.

Surviving are three brothers, David (Martha) Cross of Bellaire, Alan Cross of Virginia, and James (Jennifer) Cross of Moundsville; six sisters, Lucy (Robert) Beals of Bellaire, Rose (Jack) Wright of Cleveland, Anna Schmidt and Vera Kuhn of Shadyside, Sandra Cross of Bellaire, and Connie Spencer of West Virginia; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

BETTY CULLEN

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Cullen, 61 of Bonnie Lane, Adena, Ohio formerly of Maynard, Ohio died Sunday, December 31, 2006 at her home.

She was born at Martins Ferry on May 2, 1945 a daughter of the late George and Pauline Serdula Zusack.

Betty was a retired care giver for the former Sunset Nursing Facility at Colerain and a Catholic by faith.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Cullen, a daughter Kim Saffell, a brother Bud Zusack and a sister Barbara Goodman.

She is survived by her son, Tommy J. Cullen of Bellaire; sisters Ann Herman of Cleveland, Mary Dynda of St. Clairsville and Helen Niemann of Cleveland; 2 grandchildren, Kurtis Cullen of Maynard and Kelsey Romshak of Flushing.

Carl William Dale, age 80, of Flushing, Ohio, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at Crestview Health Care Center, St. Clairsville.  He was born July 5, 1925 in Flushing, Ohio, son of the late Richard E. Dale Sr. and Capitolia Geissinger Dale.

Carl was retired from CSX Railroad Corporation.  He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and a Bronze Star recipient.  He was a member of the Flushing Alliance Church and a member of the American Legion Post # 366 in Flushing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Allen Dale; a grandson, Kenneth B. Dale; three brothers, Frank, Richard Jr. and Thomas Dale; and seven sisters, Perrie Leone, Evelyn Johns, Ada Hydo, Freda Buchanan, Mary Campanizzi, Laura Worley and Elsie Wood.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Martha Jane Secrest Dale; a son, Carl William (Jeri) Dale Jr. of St. Clairsville; daughter-in-law, Connie Dale of Wheeling; four grandchildren, Matthew T. (Courtney) Dale, Danielle L. (Rick) Compté, Jason T. (Sherry) Dale and Scott W. Dale; and eight great grandchildren.

BERT DALEY

Bert L. Daley, Jr., 72 of Rehm Rd., St. Clairsville, Ohio went to be with his heavenly family on Tuesday, October 10, 2006.

Bert was a retired heavy equipment operator for Marietta Coal Co., and a member of the Bannock Methodist Church.

He was preceded home by his parents, Bert and Gladys McConnell Daley and a sister, Lucy Yeager.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Hughes Daley with whom he shared 52 wonderful years of marriage. He is also survived by daughters, Gina and her husband Donald Marinucci of Flushing, Shelly Wiggins of St. Clairsville, Holly and her husband Larry Janiszewski of Lansing, Marcy Taylor and Doug Ryan of Raleigh, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Toni and Dave Heightland of Athens, Ohio, Erin and Sloan Scott of Flushing, Dr. Dustin Marinucci of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Bryan Mularcik of Elm Grove, West Virginia, T.J. Mularcik of Troy, Ohio and Cassie Wiggins of St. Clairsville; two great grandchildren, Sierra Scott and Jacob Heightland; a brother, Bill and his wife Sue Daley of St. Clairsville; a brother-in-law, Alfred Yeager of St. Clairsville; along with a very loving and close extended family of brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews.

PHILIP DELUCAS III

Philip Eugene DeLucas III, 18 of Flushing Ohio died Friday, December 29, 2006.

He was a senior at Union Local High School and a member of the Spanish Club and Computer Club.

Surviving are his father, Philip Sr. and his only sister, Maxine who both love and will deeply miss him. Also surviving is his mother, Billie Bell of Glencoe.

NANCY EMRISKO

Nancy Schmelick Emrisko, 95 of St. Clairsville formerly of Dillonvale and Arizona died Thursday, December 7, 2006 at Belmont Manor in St. Clairsville.

She was born October 24, 1911 in Ukraine.

Nancy was a homemaker and member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Dillonvale.

She was preceded in death by her husband Michael Emrisko in 1973; and by four brothers, Mike, George, Steve and Joe Schmelick.

Surviving are a son Michael Emrisko and his wife Barbara of St. Clairsville; a daughter, Helen Neel and her husband Ron of Sun City West, Arizona; two grandchildren, Shari Sutter and Brian Emrisko; two great grandchildren, Alexis and Chandler Emrisko; two sisters-in-law, Margaret DeYarmon of Dillonvale and Helen Schmelick of Martins Ferry; several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. A funeral liturgy with mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Maynard with Father Thomas Graven the celebrant. Burial follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.

A vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

 

AGNES R. ERNST

Agnes R. Ernst, 82, of St. Clairsville, died Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Belmont Manor Nursing Home in St. Clairsville.  She was born April 21, 1923 in Bellaire, Ohio, daughter of the late Lee and Lula Seevers Day.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Cyril Joseph Daugherty III; and a brother Alfred Day;

Surviving are a daughter, Darleen Filas of Tinley Park, Illinois; a son, Dennis Daugherty of Chicago, Illinois; her former husband Leon Ernst; a brother, Joseph Day of Canton, Ohio; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Bellaire on Wednesday, March 8th at 10:00 a. m., with Rev. Dr. Bradley Call officiating.

Walter Evanovich, 90 of Maynard Rd., St. Clairsville, Ohio died Saturday, August 12, 2006 at his home. He was born April 3, 1916 in Studa, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Gustafik Evanovich.

He was a retired employee of Hanna/Consol Coal Company, a member of East Richland Evangelical Friends Church and the Maynard Sportsman’s Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Regina Rector Evanovich and Evelyn Scott Evanovich; four brothers, Frank, Dan, Emil, and Henry; two infant sisters.

Surviving are three sisters, Rosie Janoski of Mingo Junction, Antonia Jensen of Land O’Lakes, Florida, and Julia Porter of Creston, Ohio; several nieces, nephews and other family members.

JOSEPH FACELLO

Joseph Facello, 83 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Tuesday, June 13, 2006 in Wheeling Hospital.

Joe was born at Welch, West Virginia on September 28, 1922 the son of Frank and Olivine Lovelace Facello.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother; Dean Facello and two sisters; Lola Mae Arthur and Elisabeth Jenks.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Ann Patsey Facello; a son, Joseph F. Facello and his wife, Debra Sue Facello; twin daughters, Anita Facello Lucarelli and Kathy Facello all of St. Clairsville; four grandchildren, Gina and Anthony Lucarelli, Carey and Megan Facello; sisters, Kathleen Mitchell, Lena Bowen, Francis Campbell, Angie Lister and sister-in-law Neal Facello.

Most of Joe’s working career was devoted to coal mine safety.  As a ventilation expert with the Mine Safety and Health Administration he helped develop many of the ventilation criteria that were incorporated in the 1969 Mine Act passed by the United States Congress.  He later became an inspection supervisor and retired in 1983.  For the next 22 years he and his wife Ann enjoyed their retirement in activities with their family during the summer months while spending the winter months in Ft. Myers, Florida.

Joe was also a member of Belmont Lodge #16 of Masons, VFW Post 5356, American Legion Post 159 and St. Mary’s Catholic Church all of St. Clairsville.

Joe was a member of “the greatest generation”. One of those who served their country admirably during World War II.  He was in Pearl Harbor on the day it was bombed serving as a member of the United States Marine Corp’s 1st Division Fleet Marines.  He was part of the first invasion force that took the island of Guadalcanal.  He spent a total of 4 years in the South Pacific participating in many of the campaigns fought throughout the Marshall and Solomon Island groups.  In honor of Joe’s strong belief in his country and the service he rendered, arrangements have been made by Ms. Linda Weyman, sister-in-law of Joe’s son, to have the Stars and Stripes flown at half mast over the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  The flag will later be presented to his wife Ann.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville on Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a vigil service at 3 p.m. and Masonic services at 7 p.m.  Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church.  Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville where the  Belmont Co. Council of the VFW will conduct full military honors.

IVONE FAVOT

Ivone Favot, 100, of Dover, Ohio, formerly of Bannock, Ohio and Detroit, Michigan, died Thursday, October 12, 2006 at Park Village Health Care Center in Dover.

He was born July 23, 1906 in Pordenone, Italy, son of the late Carlo and Mary DePaoli Favot.

Ivone was a retired mechanic from Buick Motors in Detroit, Michigan.  He was a member of Bannock United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorena May Piper Favot; two sisters, Dena Favot and Adelia Favot; three brothers, Dario, Charles and Albert Favot; and a grandson, Jeffrey Gustkey.

Walter Garczyk, age 86, of Maynard, Ohio, died Friday, November 3, 2006 at Sunset Health Care Center in Harrisville.

He was born on July 28, 1920 in Maynard, Ohio, son of the late Joseph and Mary Garczyk.

Walter was a retired coal miner and farmer.  He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.  He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Maynard; a member of the PNA # 455 at Maynard and a member of the Bridgeport Eagles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Andy, Joe and Casmir Garczyk; and two sisters, Mary Pfeiffer and Amelia Uhazy.

Surviving are his wife, Nellie Styrcula Garczyk; a daughter, Carol Kovachic and her husband Bill of St. Clairsville; a son, Gene Garczyk and his wife Kathy of Maynard; a sister, Helen Fiutem of Maynard; and four grandchildren, Daniel and Eric Kovachic and Sarah and Jason Garczyk.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 3 p.m. and a PNA Service at 6 p.m. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at St. Stanislaus Church in Maynard on Monday at 10 a.m., with Father Thomas Graven the Celebrant.  Entombment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Pleasant Grove, Ohio.

PAULINE GODSEY

Pauline Hazel Gilliam Godsey, 83 of St. Clairsville, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 28, 2006. She was born April 24, 1923 in Leyland, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Emmett Gilliam and Beatrice Bailey Gilliam.

She was a retired Registered Nurse from University Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland with 36 years of service, a member of First Baptist Church in St. Clairsville and former member of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Baltimore where she served as Mother of the church, choir member and was founder and president of the Nurses Guild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Godsey; a brother and sister.

Although she had no children of her own she helped raise many nieces and nephews.

Surviving are a brother, Deacon Leonard Gilliam of St. Clairsville; a sister, Willie Mae Black of Columbus, Ohio; special sister, Juanita Sams of Columbus; her niece who was raised as a sister, Dorothy Taylor of Columbus; many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends will be received on Friday from noon until time of service at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Newel Ave. in St. Clairsville with Dr. Carl Denson officiating. Burial follows in Stone Church Cemetery, Elm Grove, West Virginia.

DONALD F. GREENWOOD

Donald F. Greenwood, age 76, of Howard, Ohio, formerly of St. Clairsville died Thursday, April 20, 2006 at Mt. Carmel East Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.  He was born in Shadyside, Ohio on June 7, 1929, son of the late John and Mary Mellott Greenwood.

Donald was retired from the Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corporation, Wheeling office.  He was a St. John’s High School graduate and graduate of the former Elliott Business College in Wheeling.  Don was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War and he was a former member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his wife, Emma Snedeker Greenwood; his children, Thomas (Jane) Greenwood of Clifton Forge, Virginia, David Greenwood of Fleming, Ohio, Richard (Gloria) Greenwood of Howard, Ohio and Susan Greenwood of the home; a brother, J. Richard (Mary Lou) Greenwood of Owasso, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Katie and Zack Greenwood, George (Meredith), Gary and Gwyn Schwindt, Geri (Perrin) Peacock; two great granddaughters, Sophia and Ciel Peacock; 7 devoted nieces and nephews.

BETTY GREENWOOD

Elizabeth L. “Betty” Greenwood, 82 of Park Health Center, St. Clairsville died Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at her home.

She was born on March 11, 1924 in Bellaire, Ohio a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Clark Greenwood.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Norbert Greenwood and her sister Agnes Greenwood Miller.

Betty was a lifelong resident of Belmont County and had been employed as a housework helper at the McCartney Rest Home and the Belco Workshop.  She was a resident of the Belmont County Home from June of 1966 to January of 1976 when she was transferred to Belmont County Oakview Nursing Home.  In 1992 Betty moved to the new facilities at Park Health Center where she resided until the time of her death.  Some of her close friends were Mary Weimer of Bellaire, Harvey Fletcher, Jiggs Gibbons, Darlene Snowden, Carol and Bill Carpenter and William Nagy all residents of Oakview.

Betty will always be remembered for her laughter, love of music and the delight she found in Christmas and Santa Claus.  She will be missed immensely by all of her friends at the Belmont County Park Health Center.

She is survived by special friends Ron Calovini, Sr. and Helen Calovini Kemp, superintendents of Oakview for some 15 years along with their children Kim, Janice, Carolyn and Ronnie and Betty Pyles, a resident of Park Health Center.

Friends may call at the Park Health Center, 100 Pine Ave., St. Clairsville on Friday from Noon to 2 p.m. where services will be held at 2 p.m. with Father Christopher Foxhoven officiating.  Burial will follow in Oakview Cemetery.

William R. “Bill” Gummere, 76 of Bannock went home to be with the Lord on July 18, 2006.

He was born December 4, 1929 in Bannock, Ohio, a son of the late Roy and Ruth Gummere.

Bill was a retired welder from Ohio River Colliers and Marietta Coal Company, and a member of The House of the Shepherd Church in New Athens.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Jane Gummere.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Jane Bethel Gummere; three sons, William Roy, Jr. and wife Connie of Bannock, Richard Allen and wife Patty of St. Clairsville, and Robert Jay and wife Kathy of Flushing; two brothers, Alan Gummere of Lancaster, Ohio and Thomas Gummere of LaPlata, Maryland; six grandchildren, Scott Gummere and wife Shelley of Bethesda, Greg Gummere and wife Leigh of Belmont, Kevin Gummere of Marietta, Oklahoma, Amy Gummere of St. Clairsville, Becky Pope and husband Bryan of Bloomfield, Ohio and Justin Gummere of Flushing; six great grandchildren, Emily, Brittany, Kyle, Tyler Gummere, and Brynn and Elyse Pope.

Ella Mae Hakr, 81 of Crozier Road, Key, Ohio died Monday, July 31, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital.

She was born at Shadyside on November 10, 1924 a daughter of the late Harry and Elsie Groves McMahon.

Ella Mae was a homemaker and a Christian by faith.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers Harry and Chester McMahon and sister Alberta McMahon.

She is survived by her husband Frank Hakr a son, Jerry (Lori) Hakr of Daytona, Florida; daughters Brenda Hakr and Cindy Stillion both of Bellaire, Elsie Parish of Maynard, Tamara (Thomas) Cole of Bellaire, Leslie (Steve) Libertosky of St. Clairsville and Donna Zuffelt of Oak Hill, Florida; a brother, George McMahon and a sister Donna (Arthur) Boston all of Shadyside; 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

By her request there will be no visitation or public services.

RODNEY “PETE” "BUG" HARLAN Jr.

Rodney “Pete” “Bug” Harlan Jr., 44, of Willow Grove Road, died Monday, September 18, 2006 at home.

He was born at Bellaire on June 15, 1962 son of Gladys Baker Harlan and the late Rodney “Pete” “Hunk” Harlan Sr.

He was a construction worker and a known associate of the Grim Reapers MC.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ina and Earnest Harlan and Nancy and Lee Baker.

Bug is survived by his mother, Gladys Baker Harlan and Hal Baker of Pipe Creek; two sons, Jeremy Harlan of Moundsville and Pete Harlan of Adena; three sisters, Susan (Bill) Prickett of Shadyside, Renee (Larry) Dayton of Rineyville, Kentucky and Laurie Hoskinson of Key; a “brother”, Steve Palenicek; several nieces and nephews.

Emily Sue Laurent Harris, 72 of Colerain, Ohio died Sunday, November 26, 2006 at the home of her son in Colerain.

She was born August 15, 1934 in Shreveport, Louisiana, daughter of the late Louis N. Laurent and Marie Sale Laurent.

Emily was a Registered Nurse Anesthetist, a retired employee of McGraw Nursing Home in Pleasant Grove, Ohio and a Catholic by faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Harris MD; and a special cousin, Floy G. Land.

Surviving are her children, Jeri L. Sanders-Mesler and her husband Charley of Channelview, Texas., William G. Harris II of Colerain, Ohio., John A. Kenneth R. Harris, 54, of Mount Vernon, Ohio formerly of St. Clairsville, died Monday, January 30, 2006 at Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital in Columbus. He was born August 4, 1951 in Martins Ferry, Ohio, son of Frances Arleen Ault Harris and the late Robert S. Harris.

Kenneth was a graduate of St. Clairsville High School.  He was an employee of H & C Telephone Co. in Mt. Vernon.

Inez Hendershot, 78 of Stewartsville, Ohio died Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at her home.

She was born in Moundsville, WV on February 19, 1928 a daughter of the late William T. and Inez Betty McGilton Willison.

Inez was a homemaker a member of the Church of Christ at St. Joe, Ohio and T.O.P.S of Bellaire.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers Milford, Melvin and Arthur “Homer” Willison and a grandson Frank W. Roach, III.

Betty W. Hindman, 86 of Hindman Rd., St. Clairsville, Ohio died Wednesday, November 15, 2006.

She was born December 14, 1919 in Wheeling, West Virginia, daughter of the late William Danhart and Velva Hastings Danhart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Hindman; sisters, Virginia Wallace, Marjorie Mackey, and Ruthie Danhart; brothers, William and Henry Danhart.

Sarah Margaret Hinkle, 96 of Willow Grove Road, St. Clairsville died Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at Forest Hill Nursing Home, St. Clairsville.

She was born at St. Clairsville on May 31, 1909 a daughter of the late Andrew and Clara Belle Finney Hinkle.

Sarah was a retired secretary from the Belmont County Extension Office and was the oldest living member of First Presbyterian Church at St. Clairsville where she was a former Elder, had served as Organist for 50 years and was past president of the Women’s Association.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Harold F. Hinkle in 1988 and an infant brother Morris Hinkle.

She is survived by several cousins and numerous friends.

Charles N. Hoffman, 65 of  St. Clairsville died Friday, June 9, 2006 at his home.

He was born March 8, 1940 in New Cumberland, West Virginia. A son of Margaret Baker Hoffman and the late Clarence Virgil Hoffman.

He was a retired employee of Imperial Clevite in Lansing, a member of the Church of Christ in St. Clairsville and the Nation al Rifle Association.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kermit Hoffman.

Surviving in addition to his mother of St. Clairsville, are his wife, Carolyn Mesich Hoffman; a son Chuck Hoffman and his wife Tammy of St. Clairsville; two brothers, Lee Hoffman of St. Clairsville and Merle Hoffman of Duncan Falls, Ohio; a sister, Karen Morgan of Canton.

Margaret Ann Hoffman, 87 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Thursday, June 15, 2006 at Crestview Health Care Center, St. Clairsville.

She was born at Neffs, Ohio on November 18, 1918 a daughter of the late Charles and Alvilda Angus Baker.

Margaret was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ at St. Clairsville.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Virgil Hoffman; a son Charles Hoffman; a grandson Derek Hoffman and sisters Alberta Yanosik and Irene Trigg.

She is survived by sons Merle Hoffman of Duncan Falls, Ohio; Lee Hoffman of St. Clairsville; daughter Karen Morgan of Canton, Ohio; daughter-in-law Carolyn Hoffman of St. Clairsville; grandchildren Tim Hoffman, Kelly Jeffries; Chuck Hoffman, Rich Hoffman, David Morgan, Kimberly Morgan and Darin Morgan; sisters Betty Watts of Rittman, Ohio and Elizabeth Phillips of Wheeling.

Della M. Baker Hranko, 81 of Key Ridge , Ohio went to be with God on Thursday, June 1, 2006 at her home.  She was born on February 14, 1925 at Pipe Creek, Ohio, daughter of the late Lee and Nancy Doty Baker.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Martin “Mojo” Hranko and a sister, Mabel “Cookie” Brunner.

Louis Hyest, 84 of Uniontown-Flushing Rd., Flushing, Ohio died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Bell Nursing Home, Belmont.

He was born December 21, 1921 in Duncanwood, Harrison County, Ohio , son of the late Anthony Hyest and Anna Zydik Hyest.

Louis was a retired Truck Driver for Cloverland Dairy, a Presbyterian, and an Army veteran of WWII.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Surviving are his wife Juanita Nolan Hyest; several nieces and nephews; special friends, John and Bonnie Humphrey.

Walter Joseph Jaskowiak, 85 of St. Clairsville formerly of Fairpoint died Monday, February 6, 2006 at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry.

He was born July 22, 1920 in Fairpoint. A son of the late Andrew and Eleanor Jaskowiak.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator from Zaccagnini Coal Co. and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fairpoint.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Jaskowiak and sister, Victoria Truchan.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including Joe Truchan of St. Clairsville.

William Howard “Tojo” Jeffers, 68 of Glencoe, Ohio died Sunday, November 19, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born September 25, 1938 in Glencoe, son of the late Joe and Pauline Hollida Jeffers.

Howard was a retired employee of Ormet Corporation, an avid bowler and golfer, a member of the Flushing Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Past Master of Weyer Lodge # 541 F&AM in Centerville where he also served as treasurer for 22 years, and was a member of the Promise Keepers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Bob Jeffers.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Helsley Jeffers; four children, Sheila Junkins of Clarksburg, Ohio., Pam (Dean) Kresak of St. Clairsville, Susan (Steve) Hall of Warnock, and Bill Jeffers of Glencoe; five brothers, Richard  of Indiana, Roger of New Paris, Ohio., Jim  of Glencoe, Frank of Bethesda, and Dave of Mississippi; three sisters, Pauline Ross of St. Clairsville, Marilyn Holland of Martins Ferry, and Elaine McClaren of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Cammie Hanson, Bethany Layman, Jessica and Kahley Jeffers, Cody Hall; two great grandchildren, Brandon Brooks and Nathan Layman.

CURTIS E. JOHNSON

Curtis E. Johnson, age 54, of Newark, Ohio formerly of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Thursday, May 4, 2006.  He was born on May 6, 1951 in War, West Virginia, son of the late Habron Johnson Sr. and Gladys Courts Stewart Johnson.

He was an employee of Strum Engineering.  Curtis was a member of Trinity A.M.E. Church in Newark and former member of Wayman A.M.E. Church in Wheeling.  He was a graduate of West Virginia State University.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Johnson and a brother, Habron Johnson Jr.

Surviving are his former wife, Jennifer Snead Johnson of St. Clairsville; two sons, Arthur W. Johnson and Joshua L. Johnson both of St. Clairsville; three sisters, Jeanette Richardson and Edith Stewart both of Georgia and Brenda Slade of New Jersey; six brothers, Aaron Stewart, Robert Stewart and Floyd Stewart all of New York, William Johnson, Albert Johnson and Tyrone Johnson all in West Virginia; many nieces and nephews.

JOHN JOHNSON

John Johnson, 101, of Little McMahon Creek Rd., St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Sunday, March 12, 2006 at Shadyside Care Center.  He was born March 8, 1905 in Skjak, Norway, son of the late John Hansnartrede and Ronnaug Johnson Hansnartrede.

He was a retired auto repairman and a painter from Sickles in Cadiz.  He worked in Detroit, Michigan for Ford, Packard, Chevrolet and Chrysler.  John was a former member of the St. Clairsville Eagles Aerie #2541.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Della Dyrdek Johnson; a son, John Johnson; an infant daughter; two brothers and two sisters in Norway.

Surviving are his two sons, Richard (Angelina) Johnson of Bellaire and David (Sandra) Johnson of North Canton, Ohio, five grandchildren, Jennifer Collins of Shadyside, Todd Johnson of Houston, Texas, Kevin Johnson, Keith Johnson and Kent Johnson all of Canton, Ohio; nine great grandchildren; a brother, Rolf and numerous nieces and nephews in Norway.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio, where services will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.  Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in St. Clairsville.

MARY ELIZABETH JOHNSON

Mary Elizabeth Johnson, 100, formerly of New Concord, Ohio, died Sunday, February 26, 2006 at First Community Village Health Care Center in Columbus.  She was born March 10, 1905 on the family farm near Powhatan Point , Ohio , eldest daughter of the late John McFadden Johnson and Nancy Ramsay (Shannon) Johnson.

She began her career as a high school teacher of English in Moundsville , West Virginia and Martins Ferry, Ohio.  From 1944 until her retirement in 1972, she was a faculty member at Muskingum College, New Concord, Ohio in Speech Communication & Theatre.  Countless people benefited from her dedicated work as an educator, theatre director, public speaker, and speech therapist.

She was a member of College Drive Presbyterian Church in New Concord. She was humble before God, as expressed in one of her favorite poems, “Trees” by Joyce Kilmer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two younger sisters, Ruth Ellen Johnson and Nancy Shannon (Johnson) Brown.

Surviving are her nephew, Eric R. Brown of Houston, Texas, two great nephews, a great great niece, two great great nephews, and several cousins.

In retirement, she enjoyed keeping up with current events and sharing stories about her life experiences with family, friends, and Village staff.

Visitors will be received on Thursday, March 9th beginning at 1:00 p. m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio.  A service will be held there at 2:00 p. m. with the Reverend Tom Houston of College Drive Presbyterian Church officiating.  Burial will follow at Powhatan Cemetery.

GARY JONES

Gary Francis Jones, 59 of O.K. Rd., Belmont, Ohio died Monday, July 3, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born November 15, 1946 in Martins Ferry, a son of Marcelyne Beckett Jones and the late Robert W. Jones.

He was an employee of Tri State Asphalt in Martins Ferry a member of the Saints Club and Laborer’s International Union of North America Local # 809. He was a well known baker and avid fisherman.

Surviving in addition to his mother of St. Clairsville, are his wife, Anna Marie Burdess Jones; sons, Gary Todd Jones and his wife Kathleen of Belmont, Bryan Clifford Jones and his wife Kelly of Warwood, and Joshua Daniel Jones at home; brother, Bobby Jones of St. Clairsville; sisters, Cheryl Stefan, Judy Heavner, and Debbie Roach all of St. Clairsville; 4 grandchildren, Jessica, Megan, Tucker, and Keaton; many nieces and nephews.

JUNE HELEN JONES

June Helen Jones, 62, of Fairpoint, Ohio, died Friday, March 17, 2006 at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry.  She was born June 7, 1943 in Fairpoint, daughter of the late Leo and Virginia Shores Stachyra.

June was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fairpoint.  She was also a member of the Fairpoint Polish Club.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Jones; a brother, Richard “Dick” Stachyra; and a sister, Connie J. Melet.

Surviving are her four stepsons, Steve Jones of Barnesville, Kenny Jones of Bethesda, Ron Jones of Piedmont and Warner Jones of Florida; a sister, Patricia (Tom) Leonard of Fairpoint; a brother, Edmond (Dolly) Stachyra of Steubenville; two step grandsons, Ron Jones Jr. and Brady Jones; and a great granddaughter, Kylie Marie Jones.

ARNETTA JORDAN

Arnetta C. Jordan, 78 of Broad Street, St. Clairsville went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 11, 2006 at Park Health Center, St. Clairsville.

She was born at Wheeling on June 8, 1927 a daughter of the late Vewles and Pauline Reed Johnson.

Arnetta was a retired cook from the Belmont Habilitation Center and a member of the First Baptist Church at St. Clairsville.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Charles A. Jordan, Sr. and an uncle Phillip Reed.

She is survived by her sons Charles Jordan, Jr. of Aurora, Colorado; Wayne (Linda) Jordan and David (Kim) Jordan all of St. Clairsville; Kevin Jordan of Delaware, Ohio and Nathan (Carolyn) Jordan of Wheeling; grandchildren Heather (Andra) Jones of Arlington, Texas; Heath Jordan and Alicia (Marc) Freeman all of St. Clairsville; Charles Jordan of Owings Mills, Maryland; Joshua Jordan of Denver, Colorado; Brooke Jordan of Brentwood, Pennsylvania; Brett Jordan of St. Clairsville; Brandy Jordan and Chad Jordan both of Delaware, Ohio and Aaron Jordan of Wheeling; 5 great grandchildren and a cousin Dorothy Jackson of Dayton.

Judith A. "Judy" Keener, 65 of Warnock Road, St. Clairsville died Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at her home.

She was born in Wheeling on January 6, 1941 a daughter of the late Paul and Lillian Ovil Carroll.

Judy was a retired case worker with the Belmont County Department of Human Services and a member of the Church of God at St. Clairsville.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by sons John Withers and Paul Keener; brothers John Carroll and Lonnie Curry and her step mother who raised her, Mary Carroll.

She is survived by her children Linda Schrimp of Benwood; Mike Withers of Lafferty and Mary Sellers of Barnesville; brothers and sisters Robert Curry of Blanchester, Ohio; Linda Sopjack of Mechanicsville, Maryland; Rebecca Miklas and Cynthia Pollock both of Martins Ferry and Paul Carroll of Delaware, Ohio; 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

WILLIAM H. KIRKLAND

William H. Kirkland, 90, of St. Clairsville, formerly of Shadyside, died Sunday, November 19, 2006 at Belmont Community Hospital in Bellaire.

He was born December 13, 1915 in Shadyside, Ohio, son of the late J. Walter and Edna M. White Kirkland.

Bill was retired from Bank One and the former First National Bank in Bellaire.  He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 27th Ordinance Company, 1st Cavalry Division.  He was a graduate of the Elliot Business School in Wheeling.  He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Key serving as Elder and Treasurer and was the Sexton of the Bethel Cemetery for many years; he was a member of the American Legion Post # 52 at Bellaire; a 50 year member of Shadyside Lodge # 724 F. & A. M.; a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Steubenville.  Bill served as Treasurer for the Village of Shadyside for 40 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by many cousins.

Surviving are a cousin, Mary Jane Cochran of Medford, Ohio; friends, Rodger and Joan Brown and family of Bellaire, Ed and Anna Marie Douglass of Columbus, Robert and Margaret Robinson and family of Pickerington, Ohio, Tom and Mindy Whiteley of Bethesda; lifetime friends, Harry and Jane Kearns of Zanesville, Ohio and many dear friends here and around the country.

Mary R. Kowalcyk, age 86, of Maynard, Ohio, died Sunday, October 8, 2006 at her home.

She was born on September 28, 1920 in Maynard, Ohio, daughter of the late Joseph Ludwig and Rose Sikora Ludwig.

Mary was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Maynard; a member of the Catholic Women’s Club and the PNA # 455 at Maynard.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Kowalcyk; a daughter, Rose Marie Kowalcyk; and three brothers, Joe, John and Walter Ludwig.

Surviving are two daughters, Joann Kokovich and her husband John of Cadiz and Barbara Hilling of Columbus; two sons, Walter F. “Bucky” Kowalcyk and his wife Sandy and Stanley “Buck” Kowalcyk and his wife Trudy all of Maynard; two brothers, Stanley Ludwig of Cadiz and Frank Ludwig of Dayton, Ohio; five sisters, Helen Klan of Maynard, Ann Day of Canton, Liz Cavender of St. Clairsville, Rose Yantz of Maynard and Alice Lachendro of Adena; five grandchildren, Christina Gdula, Angi Kokovich, Kim Kafana, Deana Hopper and Greg Hilling; and six great grandchildren.

LELA C. KRESAK

Lela C. Kresak, 83, formerly of Glencoe, Ohio died Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at Country Club Retirement Center in Bellaire.

She leaves many people who knew and loved her.  Lela enjoyed talking and laughing and she was known for cooking fabulous meals.  She was very generous with everything she had, she showed her love and kindness and greeted everyone with a smile.  Most of all she loved her entire family.

Lela was born in Glencoe, Ohio on March 26, 1923 a daughter of the late Basilio and Antonia Amici.

She was a retired employee from the G. C. Murphy Co. in Bellaire.  Lela was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Neffs where she was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Kresak; a brother, Leo Amici and an infant brother, Columbus Amici.

Lela is survived by her three sons, Dennis (Teri) Kresak of Hudson, Ohio, David Kresak of Chagrin Falls, Ohio and Dean (Pam) Kresak of St. Clairsville; two granddaughters, Susan Winter and Jenna Kresak; a great granddaughter, Emily Winter; four sisters, Jenny Cinzori of Dearborn, Michigan, Lola Olexa of Detroit, Michigan, Thelma Mehl of Henderson, Nevada and Elva Atkinson of Rayland, Ohio; and a brother, William Amici of Garden City, Michigan.

Alisha Yvonne Barton Labiche, 17 of Stewartsville, Ohio, beloved daughter and granddaughter went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 24, 2006 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown. She was born January 30, 1989 at Wheeling a daughter of Shawna Gargala Labiche and Okie Barton, Jr.

She was a member of the Clarksburg United Methodist Church

Alisha was preceded in death by her great grandparents Elwood and Laura DeVault and Clarence and Wanda Clark.

LOUIS A. LEE Sr.

Louis Allen Lee Sr., age 63, of Zanesville, Ohio formerly of Tiltonsville, Ohio, died Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at Genesis-Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville. He was born June 26, 1942 in Martins Ferry, Ohio, son of the late Dr. Louis B. Lee and Mary Blanche Allen Lee.

Louis was a retired employee from General Motors in Cleveland and Oklahoma City. He served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War and he was a member of Cornerstone Full Gospel Church in Duncan Falls.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Blunden.

Surviving are his wife, Brenda Hall Lee; two sons, Louis A. Lee Jr. of Newark and Jeremy at home;  a sister, Lois Ann Mitchell of Massachusetts; two brothers, Larry Lee of Follansbee, West Virginia and Lenny Lee of Baltimore, Maryland; and two grandchildren, Savannah Lee and Kenney Lee.

David D. Loveless, 85 of Cindy Dr., St. Clairsville died Monday, June 12, 2006 at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry.

He was born March 14, 1921 in Jackson, Ohio, a son of the late George Loveless and Gertrude Caldwell Loveless.

He was a retired employee of Ohio Edison at Dilles Bottom, a member of Clarksburg United Methodist Church, an Army veteran of WWII, and a member of Weyer Lodge # 541 F. & A.M. at Centerville, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Angus Loveless and a brother, Maurice Loveless.

Surviving are a daughter, Sheryl Clark and her husband Robert Gary Clark of St. Clairsville; a sister, Jane Angus of Stewartsville; a granddaughter, Jamie Lednik of St. Clairsville.

ALEDA LOYER

Aleda Mae Loyer, 77 of Reservoir Rd., St. Clairsville died Saturday, July 8, 2006 at Park Health Center in St. Clairsville.

She was born March 20, 1929 in Point Marion, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Grover C. Moats and Verna Foley Moats.

Aleda was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville where she served for many years by putting her talent for arts and crafts to great use. She enjoyed painting, sketching and spinning as well as genealogy. She was a member of the Questers and the Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority in St. Clairsville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Francis Loyer.

Surviving are four children, Darryl Loyer and his wife Lauren of Nashua, NH., Karen Latham and her husband Edward of La Grange, IL., Vernon Loyer and his wife Cinda of St. Clairsville, Doug Loyer and his wife Tonya of Marietta, OH, and 6 grandchildren.

Leslie T. Lucas, 71 of Orchard Terrace Apartments, St. Clairsville formerly of Centerville, Ohio died Monday, September 4, 2006 at his home.

He was born on December 15, 1934 near Glencoe, Ohio, a son of the late Charles and Bea Higgins Lucas.

Leslie was a retired employee of Consolidation Coal Company and a former member of the Smith Township Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Hunt Lucas.

He is survived by his sons Alan (Pamela) Lucas of St. Clairsville; Jerry (Diana) Lucas of Cincinnati and Gerald Lucas of St. Clairsville; his sister, Sara (Leroy) Carpenter of Centerville; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

STANLEY MALESKI

Stanley Maleski, 80 of Lafferty Road, St. Clairsville died Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling.

He was born at Johnston City, Illinois on March 27, 1925 a son of the late Paul and Mary Zaro Maleski.

Stanley was a retired employee of the Y & O Coal Company at Cadiz and a member of United Mine Workers local #283.  He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Josephine and brothers Alex and Tony.

Surviving are his wife Lucy Johnson Maleski; 3 sons, Dr. Steve Maleski of Greensboro, NC, Charles Maleski of Dillonvale and Richard Maleski of Bridgeport; 1 daughter Peggy Webb of St. Clairsville; brothers Walter Maleski of Barnesville and Henry Maleski of Newcomerstown; 6 grandchildren.

Adolphe J. Malis, 92, formerly of Martins Ferry, died Friday, November 24, 2006 at Forest Hill Nursing Home in St. Clairsville.  He was born October 24, 1914 in Martins Ferry, son of the late Mike and Patricia Martinonis Malis.

Adolphe was retired from Pycoma in Martins Ferry.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Martins Ferry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Marie Cecil Malis; two brothers, Michael and Philip Malis; and a sister, Anna Pappas.

Surviving are a daughter, Joan Dayton and her husband Terry of Bethesda; a son, Myron J. Erna W. Markland. 86 of Taylor Lane, St. Clairsville died Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at her home.

She was born a Tarentum, Pennsylvania on October 12, 1919 a daughter of the late Adolph and Emma Budress.

Erna served as Executive Secretary of the Belmont County Board of MR/DD for several years.  She also worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service’s St. Clairsville Post Office and was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church at St. Clairsville.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas A. Markland; a son Roger Markland and her 3 sisters.

She is survived by her children, Donald T. Markland of Houston, Texas; Linda Chaplin of Memphis, Tennessee; Debi Crane of Bowling Green, Ohio; Tom Markland of St. Clairsville and her grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville on Friday, August 4, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Laurie Armstrong officiating.  Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Gardens at Dorseyville, Pennsylvania on Monday at the convenience of the family.

PATRICK McDONNELL

Robert Patrick McDonnell, 55 of Maynard died Saturday, June 24, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born November 22, 1950 in Wellsburg, West Virginia. A son of the late Charles M. McDonnell and Josephine Nepa McDonnell.

He was a coal miner for Consolidation Coal Company’s Shoemaker and Franklin Mines. A member of Maynard Methodist Church, Maynard Sportsman’s Club, PNA Lodge in Maynard and the UMWA Local.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Matusik McDonnell; brothers, Guy and Charles McDonnell.

Surviving are step children, Darla Colvin Krupzak of Canton, Andrew Lee Krupzak of Martins Ferry, and Ronda Carter of Bellaire; daughter Christie Ann of California; brothers, Frederick McDonnell of Deland, Florida, Chester McDonnell of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters, Sharon Stewart of Bellaire, and Martha Fox of Bethesda; 6 step-grandchildren; special friends, Helen I. Garrison, and Ronnie Holstein

KENNETH McFARLAND

Kenneth J. McFarland, 86 formerly of Colerain Pike, St. Clairsville died Thursday, January 19, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born at Martins Ferry on October 7, 1919 a son of the late Fred J. and Eva Martin McFarland.

Kenny was a retired equipment inspector for the U. S. Government a member of the Church of Christ and was a combat veteran of the U. S. Army during World War II where he was awarded the Bronze Star for valor in combat during the Battle of the Bulge.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Ray McFarland formerly of Colerain Pike and Lawrence McFarland formerly of Pittsburgh and a sister, Martha Brown formerly of Martins Ferry.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Katherine Toohey McFarland; sons Paul McFarland of Athens, Ohio and Eric McFarland of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and a sister, Betty Hunt of Barnesville.

A private family funeral service will be held on Friday at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville.  Burial will follow in Crestview Cemetery, Barnesville.

Military honors will be conducted by the Belmont County Council of the American Legion at the funeral home.

 

ROBERT LLOYD MCFARLAND

Robert Lloyd McFarland, age 75, of St. Clairsville, died Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at his home.  He was born June 29, 1931 in St. Clairsville, Ohio, son of the late Robert E. McFarland and Anna Marjorie Wiley McFarland.

He was a retired employee from the former Pyrofax Gas Co. and Wilbert Vault Company and he was a farmer.  Lloyd was a member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville where he was a head usher and was in charge of the sound system.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel M. Palmer McFarland; two children, Robert McFarland Jr. of St. Clairsville and Diana (Jerry) Lucas of Amelia, Ohio; two sisters, Iva Ritner of Cincinnati and Lois Bittikofer of Bucyrus, Ohio; four grandchildren, David (Morena) Lucas, Jennifer (Andrew) Ebbing, John (Jessica) Lucas and Jessica Lucas; four great grandchildren, Elijah Kiyuna, Joseph Thomas, Aariana Lucas and Alexander Ebbing.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.  Services will be held at Calvary Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville on Saturday at 11 a.m., with Rev. KENNETH T. McGILTON

Kenneth Thurman McGilton, 30, of Middlebourne, West Virginia, died February 21, 2006.  He was born in Bellaire, Ohio on December 10, 1975.

He was an employee of Ormet Corporation working from Local # 5760.  Ken served in the U. S. Navy from 1995 through 1998.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Alan McGilton.

Surviving are his mother, Janet Lee Hummel McGilton; three sisters, Tracy (Paul) Ponsetti of Wheeling, Crystal Pollock of St. Clairsville and Candy (Eric) Fisher of Wheeling; two brothers, Richard (Kayla) McGilton Jr. of Shadyside and Eric (Christine) Hamilton of Woodsfield; seven nieces and nephews, Ashley Ponsetti, Destiny Eppley, Sarriah Pollock, Neilie Dimmerling, Ian McGilton, Regan Hamilton and Gavan McGilton.

MICHAEL E. MOORE

Michael E. Moore, 66, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died peacefully at home with his family on Monday morning, March 20, 2006.  He was born in Weston, West Virginia on October 14, 1939, son of the late Joseph Henry and Nell Fealy Moore.

Michael and family moved to Fairmont where he attended and graduated from St. Peter’s School in 1957. Mike was manager of the St. Peter’s Basketball team.  He attended the Fairmont Business College until he entered the Army where he served as a supply sergeant at Ft. Jackson, SC.  Mike worked part-time at McCrory’s while in high school and became a store manager and a district manager for McCrory’s.  He managed many stores throughout Pennsylvania and his last store was at the Ohio Valley Mall in St. Clairsville.  Following his time with McCrory’s, he worked briefly for Prudential but decided he enjoyed retirement more.  He thoroughly enjoyed golfing, walking, gardening, traveling and spending time with his family.

Mike is survived by his wife, Karen Moran Moore.  They eloped to Winchester, Virginia on April 27, 1964 and have had nearly forty-two years together. He is also survived by his children, Kathleen Dyan Moore of Cincinnati, Ohio and Patrick Michael Moore and his wife Sabina; and a granddaughter, Morgan Madge Moore, whom he loved dearly; a sister, Mr. and Mrs. Tom (Margaret Ann) Blake of Roanoke, West Virginia and several first cousins.  He was also very special to Karen’s family: Marilyn Heinle, Peter (Pat) Moran, Don (Gwen) Moran, Linda (Don) Doughty, Connie (Andy) Sivak, Annabelle Willard, Rebecca (Jim) Donley, Charles Moran, Lonnie (Gail) Moran and Lorena (Dan) Piteleski; also many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter; and his sisters, Marie McIsaac and Josephine Patrick.

HELEN G. MORGAN

Helen G. Morgan, age 98, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at Forest Hill Nursing Home in St. Clairsville.

She was born on July 20, 1908 in Glover Gap, West Virginia, daughter of the late William A. and Agnes Dawson Hennen.

Helen was a member of First Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville since 1927.  She was a member of the Belmont County Farm Bureau; a member of the Orange Manor Mobile Home Association in Winter Haven, Florida.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W. Clark Morgan in 1980; her stepmother, Daisy Dawson Hennen Ogilvie; two brothers, Bill and Paul Hennen; two sisters, Francis Buzzard and Ruth Hodges; son-in-law, Quinton Morris; a great granddaughter, Laura Billman.

Surviving are her family: daughters, Dorothy Morris of Fort Myers, Florida, Edna and Harold Campbell of Belmont, Ohio and Nancy and Carl Stonebraker of St. Clairsville; grandchildren, Kathleen and Dennis Green, Carol Bethel, Bill Stonebraker, Janet and Gary Billman, Jim and Vickie Campbell, Nancy Morris, and Robert Morris; great grandchildren, Jennifer and Mike Fetzer, Clark and Carrie Green, Daniel Bethel, Shasta Campbell, Jimmy Campbell, Christina Morris, and Amber Morris; great great granddaughter, Morgan Fetzer; half brother, Merle Hennen of Fairfield, Ohio and a special friend, Sheryl Morris.

VELMA MORRIS

Velma B. Morris, 94 formerly of Pearl St., Flushing, Ohio died Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry.

She was born June 28, 1911 in Bethesda. A daughter of the late Frank Stidd and Mary Craig Stidd.

She was a member of the Flushing Christian Church and Flushing Senior Citizen’s Center.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Morris; a son, Clark Townsend; brothers, Woodrow, Harry, Stewart “Jimmy” Stidd; sisters, Elizabeth Medley and Doris Stidd.

Surviving are a granddaughter, Sharon Parissh of Michigan; 3 great grandchildren; dear friend Geraldine Ostrander; several nieces and nephews.

MIKE MRIZ Jr.

Mike Mriz Jr., age 82, of Midway, Ohio, died Friday, June 2, 2006 at Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale, West Virginia.  He was born on July 20, 1923 in Midway, son of the late Mike Mriz Sr. and Mary Santa Mriz.

He was a retired employee of Crown City Mining Co.  Mike was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fairpoint and a member of the United Mine Workers of America.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Dawson Mriz; two sisters; and two brothers.

Surviving are his three sons, Sid Schaudies of Mercer Island, Washington, Fritz Schaudies of Parker, Colorado and Daniel Mriz of Midway; two sisters; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Diane Faye Couture Nagy, age 56, of St. Clairsville, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital.  She was born on December 1, 1949 in Camden, Maine, a daughter of Raymond and Irene Duley Couture.

Diane was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald M. Couture.

FRED NATION Sr.

Fred T. Nation Sr., 70, of Flushing, died Sunday, October 15, 2006 at the U.S. Veterans Hospital in Aspinwall, Pennsylvania.

He was born in Painesville, Ohio on February 27, 1936, son of Bernice Adams Nation Sines and the late John Thomas Nation.

Fred was a retired foreman from Y & O Coal Company, Nelms # 2 mine.  He served in the Marine Corps and was a U.S. Army Paratrooper from 1958 to 1962.  He was a Methodist by faith.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by, a sister, Mildred Marbais; a brother, Michael John Nation; a granddaughter, Annalisse Kalinowski; and stepfather, Oral Sines.

Surviving in addition to his mother, Bernice Sines; are his wife, Judi Mort Nation; children, Fred (Sonya) Nation Jr. of Neffs, Mary Wallace of Adena, Victor (Donna) Nation of St. Petersburg, Florida, Mitch (Deb) Kalinowski of Barton, Shawn (Brandy) Kalinowski of Flushing; a sister, Nancy (Frank) Betz of Canton and a brother, Lawrence Kratzer of California; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

ROBERT E. OLEXO

Robert E. Olexo, 68, of New Lexington, Ohio, formerly of Belmont County, died Friday, February 17, 2006 at his home.  He was born July 23, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio, son of Verna Hicho Olexo and the late Robert Joseph Olexo.

Bob was retired from the office of Congressman Bob Ney.  He was a retired Project Manager from the Ohio Department of Transportation.  He was a former Belmont County Commissioner.  He served on the Community Mental Health Board; he served on the board at the Bellaire Clinic and the Board of MRDD.  He also worked for VOCA Corporation and served as the Executive Director for the Governor on the Ohio Health Care Board.  He also served on many other state, county and local committees, programs and projects.  He had a lifelong commitment to serving the people.  His higher education included two Master’s Degrees.  Bob was an ordained priest from the Reformed Catholic Church, Serving at St. Sebastian’s Catholic Community in Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Surviving are his mother, Verna Olexo of Parma, Ohio; his former wife, Sharon Thornton Olexo of Bellaire; his sons, Dr. Rob Olexo and his wife Julie of St. Clairsville, Bo Olexo of Morristown, and Rick Olexo and his wife Amy of Belmont; a brother, Gene Olexo of Parma; a sister, Patricia Petrosky of Parma; and six grandchildren, Bo Michael and Brady, Tessa and Tyler, and Garrett and Kade.

WILLIAM OTTO

William Joseph Otto, 80 of Armstrongs Mills, Ohio died Thursday, May 4, 2006 at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry.

He was born June 1, 1925 in Dilles Bottom, Ohio, a son of the late Harry and Josephine Kovar Otto.

He was a retired employee of North American Coal # 3 mine, an Army veteran of WWII having served as a mortar gunner in the European and African Theatre and was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, 4 Bronze Stars and a Bronze Arrowhead as well as the WWII Victory Medal. He was also a member of the Beallsville American Legion.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Faye Thomas Otto; daughter Valerie Starr Moore; brother, Richard Otto.

Surviving are three sons, Tobias William Otto, Terrence Lee Otto both of Beallsville and Tracey Joseph Otto of Armstrongs Mills; four brothers, Harry Otto of Dilles Bottom, Robert Otto, of Trenton, New Jersey, Ben Otto of Pipe Creek, Paul Otto of Cambridge; a sister, Jo Ann “Sis” Heatherington of Martins Ferry; 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday. Burial follows in Powhatan Cemetery.

Mabel-Jo Christina Palmer, 57 of Newark, Ohio formerly of Centerville died Saturday, August 26, 2006 at her home.

She was born at Neffs on November 23, 1948 a daughter of the late Nathan and Mabel Penberthy Wilson.

Mabel-Jo was a Homemaker, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post  626 at Bellaire, an honorary member of the Red Hat Society and was a pitcher in the Women’s Softball leagues around the valley for many years.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Scott Palmer and a sister, Lora Mae Abbott.

She is survived by her husband Lester W. Palmer, Jr.; her children Erin Donato of Jacobsburg; Darryl Palmer of Shadyside and Christopher Palmer of Newark; brothers Nathan Wilson of Belleville, Illinois; Homer Wilson of Bethesda; Danny Wilson of Akron; Philip Wilson of Belmont and Herb Wilson of Beallsville; sisters Sue Ellen Dilly of Jacobsburg and Mindy Sayre of Belmont; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

BEATRICE PASSMORE

Beatrice Scott Howell Passmore, 82 of Sand Hill Rd., Bellaire died Thursday, July 27, 2006 at her home.

She was born May 20, 1924 in Neffs, Ohio, a daughter of the late Sewell “Bud” and Ellen Scott.

She was a member of Belmont U.P. Church, Gold Star Wives of America, American Legion Auxiliary, and AARP.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert S. Howell who was killed in service during World War II; two sisters, Geneva Jones and Norma Brown.

Surviving are two sons, Robert S.M. Howell and his wife Janet of Bellaire, and William J. Passmore and his wife Betty of Stewartsville; three grandchildren, Sherry (Brian) Blon, Billie (John E.) Blacker, and Robert Passmore; five great grandchildren, Kayla and John Blacker, Amy and Kelly Blon, and Austin Passmore; a sister, Peggy (les) Hurd; a brother, Gerald “Jerry” (Dee) Scott.

Pat Peterson, 85, of Colerain Pike, Martins Ferry, died Monday, March 7, 2006 at her home.  She was born October 7, 1920 in Spartanburg, S.C., daughter of the late Calvin and Sara Elizabeth Crane Wortman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer W. Peterson in 1973; four brothers, and four sisters.

Dulcie L. Phillips, 86 of Centerville, Ohio died Sunday, July 9, 2006 at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling.

She was born at Shadyside, Ohio on September 22, 1919 a daughter of the late Jacob Walters and Mary Jane Holland Walters.

Dulcie was a homemaker and a member of the Centerville Christian Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth R. Phillips; a son Kenneth J. Phillips of St. Clairsville; a daughter Darlene Baker of Centerville; seven grand children and eleven great grand children.

FRANK PLEWNIAK

Frank Plewniak, 82 of Park Drive, St. Clairsville died Friday, March 24, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born in Dillonvale, Ohio on November 30, 1923 a son of the late John and Sophia Plewniak

Frank was a retired machinist and foreman for Tri-State Machine of Wheeling, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church at St. Clairsville, American Legion Post 159 at St. Clairsville and was an Army veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Zuzak Plewniak; brothers John and Joseph Plewniak and sisters Helen Cefus and Wanda  Van Beneden.

He is survived by his wife Lillian Wojchowski Plewniak; stepsons Donald (Nellie) Cetorelli of St. Clairsville and Brian (Linda) Cetorelli of Bellaire; sisters Mildred Kovaleski of Dillonvale and Geneva Chrisagis of Tiltonsville; grandsons Adam Cetorelli, Joseph Wheeler, Pete (Paula) Perticarini and Steve (Lisa) Perticarini; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville with Vigil services at 4 p.m.  Funeral Liturgy with mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clairsville with Father Christopher Foxhoven as celebrant.

Belmont County Council of the American Legion will conduct military honors Tuesday following the Mass at St. Mary’s Church.

William “Bill” Polinko, age 80, of St. Clairsville died Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at Echo Manor in Pickerington, Ohio.  He was born September 15, 1925 in Cambridge, Ohio, son of the late Charles and Mary Polinko.

William was a retired electrician from Consolidation Coal Company.  He was a member of the Thoburn United Methodist Church in St. Clairsville; and he was a Navy veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by seven siblings, Mary Demeter, Micky Polinko, Anne Smith, Jule Rates, John Polinko, Andrew Polinko and Catherine Lepley.

Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Watson Polinko; his children, Annette (Dave) Pagura of Pickerington, Ohio, Mark (Linda) Polinko of Lake Zurich, Illinois, Bruce (Victoria) Polinko of Reynoldsburg, Ohio and Brad (Tina) Polinko of Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren, Stephany , Lindsay, Bryce and Wyatt Polinko; a sister, Helen Lucko of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother, Peter Polinko of Nebraska; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Katherine Poppe, formerly of Shadyside died Wednesday, March 1, 2006.

Alex Z. Proger, age 86, of Stewartsville, Ohio, died Sunday, July 9, 2006 at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry.  He was born June 18, 1920 in Adena, Ohio, son of the late Alexander Proger and Virginia Duna Timko Proger.

Alex was a retired employee from Ormet Corporation and a retired coal miner.  He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.  He was a member of the American Legion Post # 632 in Glencoe; a member of the Bellaire Eagles Aerie # 371; a member of the VFW Post # 626 in Bellaire and a member of the Polish American Club in Wolfhurst.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Alick, Walter and Tony Proger; and sisters, Elizabeth Burdess, Ann Martin and an infant sister.

Alex is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Powell Proger; two daughters, Phyllis (Jim) Frasher of Wellington, Ohio and Betty (Bill) Passmore of Stewartsville; two sons, Alex “Butch” (Edie) Proger of Wheeling and Anthony “Tony” (Jodi) Proger of Glencoe; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-two great grandchildren.

ROGER RAMSAY

Roger Ramsay, 49, of Jacobsburg, died Saturday, September 16, 2006 as the result of a farming accident.

He was born July 15, 1957 in Bellaire, Ohio, son of Stella Lea Graham Ramsay and the late William Warren Ramsay.

Roger was an equipment operator for the Belmont County Engineering Department; he was the owner and operator of Ramsay Excavating and was owner and driver of the Sundowner Truck Pulling Team.  He attended Jacobsburg United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Warren Ramsay; and his grandparents, Evelyn and Warren Ramsay and Robert and Nellie Graham.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Kelly Otto Ramsay; his daughter, Nikki Ramsay; his mother, Stella Lea Ramsay of Jacobsburg; two sisters, Donna (Tom) Crozier of Key and Beverly (Fred) Greenlee of Belmont; several nieces and nephews; one great niece; two great nephews and Goddaughter, Markie West.

The Ramsay family asks for you to honor Roger’s request that everyone who attends his funeral service wear jeans.

JOSEPH J. REPAN

Joseph J. Repan, age 85, of Flushing, Ohio, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006 at Harrison Community Hospital in Cadiz.  He was born June 12, 1921 in Duncanwood, Ohio, son of the late Nick and Josephine Cingel Repan.

Joe was a retired crane operator for a steel mill in Phoenix, Arizona.  He was a protestant by faith.  He was a U. S. Army Air Forces veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Nick Repan and his first wife, Vivian.

Joseph is survived by his wife, M. Lois Stanchina Raber Repan; two sons, Dennis and Donald Repan both of Arizona; a brother, John Repan of Fairpoint; two sisters, Pauline Nichol of Uniontown and Mary Saki of Dover, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.  Arrangements by Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville.

John S. Sabo, 85 of Young Lane, St. Clairsville died Saturday, April 29, 2006 at his home.

He was born August 23, 1920 in St. Clairsville, son of the late John Sabo and Emma Luko Sabo Kovach.

John was a retired employee of Pontiac Motor Co. in Pontiac, Michigan, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville, an Army veteran of WWII, member of VFW Post 5356 and American Legion Post 159 in St. Clairsville and DAV of Columbus.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Holpp Sabo; two brothers, Alfred and Edmond Sabo.

Surviving are stepson, Gregory (Mary) Bowser of St. Clairsville; best friend “Sammi” Terry (Kevin) Fador of St. Clairsville; brother, Louis Sabo of Dunedin, Florida; half brother, Mike Kovach of St. Clairsville; 3 step grandchildren, Christine, Kimberly and Gregory, Jr.

ANGELA K. SBROCKEY

Angela K. Sbrockey, age 82, died July 3, 2006.  She was a resident of Beacon House at Forest Hills in St. Clairsville.

She was born in Bellaire on July 21, 1923, the daughter of Alphonso and Mary Gatto Gallucci.  She was a graduate of the Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.  She earned teacher certification and a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Ohio University.

She was a teacher/coach at Union Local High School before transferring to the Ohio County school system where she taught at Warwood and Triadelphia before moving to the newly opened Wheeling Park High School as a guidance counselor.  She retired from that post in 1985.

She was a member of the Rock Hill Presbyterian Church, Bellaire.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bob Gallucci and Bill Gallucci; and her husband, Nick T. Sbrockey.

She is survived by daughters, Mary Ann (David) Creamer of Bellaire, Karen Sbrockey of Denver, Colorado, Patty (Harry) Lovrak of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, and son, Nick (Cheryl) Sbrockey of Gaithersburg, Maryland; three grandchildren, Cory (Sarah) Lovrak, Gia (Justin) Reed, Deanna Lovrak; a brother, Alphonse Gallucci of California, an aunt, Helen Gatto, of Bellaire; two great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Saturday, July 8, 2006 at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Don Cordery officiating.

Mary Elizabeth Schafer, 81 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Thursday, July 13, 2006 in Wheeling Hospital.

She was born at St. Clairsville on June 1, 1925 a daughter of the late Osman and Elizabeth Ann Morton Premilovich.

Mary Elizabeth was a retired employee of Blair Cleaners in Canton.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Richard Schafer and sisters Amelia Edge, Catherine Straface and Rena Smutney.

She is survived by her brother John Premilovich of St. Clairsville; nieces and nephews.

GEORGE PAUL SCHNEGG

George Paul Schnegg, 89 of St. Clairsville died Saturday, December 30, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born February 17, 1917 at Clover Ridge, Ohio, a son of the late Lewis Schnegg and Leota Fraley Schnegg.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Consolidation Coal Co., a decorated Army veteran having received three bronze stars for his service during World War II, a member of East Richland Evangelical Friends Church, VFW Post # 5356 in St. Clairsville, American Legion Post # 77 in Neffs, and UMWA Local # 7690.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline “Toots” Kanopsic Schnegg; two brothers, Floyd and Starling Schnegg.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

KATHY SHUTLER

Kathy J. Shutler, 50 of St. Clairsville, loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend died Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital.

She was born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania October 17, 1955 a daughter of Loretta Metcalf Koballa and the late Thomas Koballa.

Kathy was a graduate of Martins Ferry High School and the Ohio Valley School of Nursing.  She received her B.S. degree from Ohio University and her M.S. degree from West Virginia University.  She was a registered nursing instructor at Belmont Technical College, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church at St. Clairsville and the Miracle of Life Support Group.

She was preceded in death by her father Thomas Koballa.

She is survived by her husband Kevin Shutler; her children Christopher (Anne) Shutler of Chicago, Illinois; Andrea (Jeremy) Schafer of Cambridge, Ohio and David Shutler of the home; her mother Loretta Metcalf Koballa of St. Clairsville; her brother Thomas (Nancy) Koballa of St. Louis, Missouri; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville.  Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clairsville with Father Thomas Chillog and Father Christopher Foxhoven as concelebrants.  Burial will follow at Mt. Stephen S. Siembab, 89, of Crescent Rd., St. Clairsville died Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at his home while surrounded by his family.

He was born July 7, 1917 in Deep River, Connecticut, a son of the late John Siembab and Anna Pachol Siembab.

Steve was a retired construction worker from Siembab and Brothers Construction and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Sokolowski Siembab; and a brother, Louis.

Surviving are three daughters, Ann Chickery and her husband John, Andrea Androsko and her husband Bob of St. Clairsville, Angie Davis and her husband Brian of Bethesda; two sons, Stephen R. Siembab of Columbus and David Siembab of St. Clairsville; two brothers, Carl of Galway, Ireland and Lawrence of Kensington, Connecticut; a sister, Elizabeth Pepka of Hopkinton, Massachusetts; 4 grandchildren, Kathleen Murray, David Chickery, Bethany and Katelyn Davis; three great grandchildren, Tyler, Mackenzie, and Rachel Murray.

LaVerne Frances “Sissy” Sikora, 74, Lore City, Ohio, died on December 31, 2006 at Country View Assisted Living in Lore City.  She was born in Maynard, Ohio, on September 10, 1932, daughter of the late John Sikora and Frances Mary Durda Weekley.

Sissy was a retired Registered Nurse in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  She was a graduate of Ruth Brant School of Nursing in Martins Ferry and a graduate of Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.  She was a Catholic by faith and a member of the PNA Lodge # 455 in Maynard.  LaVerne was an avid reader and Knitter.

She is Survived by a sister, Helen Vascura of St. Clairsville; a brother, John E. (Betty Ann) Sikora of Pleasant Grove; three nieces, Terry Sikora, Paula (Jeff) Martin and Lorraine Sikora; two nephews, David (Jackie) Vascura and Michael (Chelsey) Vascura; one grand niece; and two grand nephews.

Arthur A. Sim, 77 of Lee Rd. , St. Clairsville , Ohio died Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at his home.

He was born June 4, 1929 in Montreal , Canada , a son of the late Avard Gates Sim and Evelyn Wilkins Sim.

Art was a retired Industrial Estimator for Hartman and Hartman of Washington, PA and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Anne Logsdon and a nephew, John Logsdon.

Robert V. Speicher, Sr., 83 of Barton Rd., St. Clairsville died Saturday, October 21, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born March 7, 1923 in Doylestown, Ohio, a son of the late Frank and Mary Becker Speicher.

Bob was a retired sales manager for Ashland Oil Company, a Marine Corp veteran of WWII, and a member of VFW post 5356 in St. Clairsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley and Gene Speicher.

Surviving are his wife, Constance “Connie” Hille Speicher; five children, Pam Stewart and her husband Forrest of Piedmont, Judy McManus and her husband Lloyd of Belmont, Cindy Rathburn and her husband Gary of Ashville, Ohio, Robert Speicher, Jr. and his wife Jackie of Hendrysburg, and Debbie Withers and her husband Mike of Lafferty; a sister, Maxine Musser of Marshallville, Ohio; 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Pearl Mae Holmes Virts Spendal, age 98, of St. Clairsville, died at Forest Hill Nursing Home on Friday, April 21, 2006.  She was born in Gladesville, West Virginia on August 22, 1907, daughter of the late Albert W. Holmes and Ethel Jane Noce Holmes.

She was a Methodist by faith.

In addition to her parents, Pearl Mae was preceded in death by husbands, Ray Virts and Anton “Andy” Spendal; an infant son, James Virts; Four brothers, Spurgeon, Ralph, Oliver and Carl Holmes; and a sister, Betty Roberts.

Kenneth A. Spoon, 37, Belmont, Ohio, died Thursday, November 30, 2006 at Glencoe.  He was born December 3, 1968 in Bellaire, son of Willard and Judith Lynn Spoon.

Kenny was a mechanic at Walls Junkyard in Glencoe.

Surviving in addition to his parents, are his wife, Jenny Rayner Spoon; four children, Kristen Rayner, Deanna Spoon, Kenneth Spoon Jr. and Dalton Willis;  four brothers, Willie Spoon, Jimmy Spoon, Bill Spoon and Cecil Kovas; and a sister, Latisha Spoon.

Chloris E. Stemkowski, 81, of St. Clairsville, formerly of Bellaire, died Sunday, July 30, 2006 at the Park Health Center after a lengthy illness.  She was born Feb. 27, 1925 at Moss Run in Bellaire. She was the youngest daughter of the late Harry and Hope Myers Glasgow.

She was retired from the former Imperial Glass Factory in Bellaire.  She was a devoted wife and mother and known to many as “Grandma” in Bellaire.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony “Tony” Stemkowski on Jan. 28, 1997 and her baby brother, Gilbert “Gib” Glasgow in 1986.

Surviving are her daughter, Paula Lou Stemkowski and companion James Givens of St. Clairsville;  a son, Randall Anthony Stemkowski and his girlfriend Robin Baker and her family of Bellaire and the mother of Randall’s children Susan Clifford of Bellaire; grandchildren, Heather Marie (Jeff) Hughes of Virginia; Shawn Edward Clifford, Shaylee Ann Stemkowski and fiancée Seth Frazier all of Bellaire; a great granddaughter, Haleigh Marie Hughes and was awaiting the arrival of baby Frazier; a brother, Wilbert “Wib” (Josie) Glasgow; a sister Gertrude “Gerty” Jackson all of Bellaire; brother-in-law, Joseph Stemkowski and sisters-in-law, Martha Glasgow of St. Clairsville and Patricia Padyjasek of Shadyside; many nieces and nephews and friends.

Victor Carl “Vic” Stepputtis of Hutchinson Dr., St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Monday, December 25, 2006 at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry.

He was born November 10, 1919 in Cairo, Nebraska, a son of the late Carl and Emma Wagenknecht Stepputtis.

Vic was a retired realtor from Wheeling Realty, a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in St. Clairsville, an Army veteran of WWII, member and former Quarter Master of VFW Post 5356, member and immediate past chairman of the scholarship committee for American Legion Post 159 of St. Clairsville, a Saints Club member, and Past President of the St. Clairsville Noon Rotary Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Marie Droge Stepputtis; a brother, Harold Stepputtis.

Surviving are daughter, Susan D. Stepputtis, and son, Richard “Rick” Stepputtis and his wife Susan L. of St. Clairsville; sister, Darleen Hitz of Lincoln, Nebraska; three nieces.

Charles Russell Stillion, 61 of Cumberland Run Rd., Jacobsburg died Friday May 19, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital.  He was born December 2, 1944 in Bellaire, son of the late Thomas Austin Stillion and Vera Vivian Bates Stillion.

He was a former truck driver for Iron City Distributors in Mingo Junction, a member of Clarksburg United Methodist Church, Cumberland Run Little Beavers 4-H Leader for over 40 years, and a member of the Teamsters Local.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles “Chuckie” Stillion, Jr.; a daughter, Kara Rose Gillespie; sister, Candy Thorn.

Surviving are his wife, Rose Thornton Stillion; daughter, Theresa Marie Palmer of Jacobsburg; sisters, Marcie Porter of Centerville, and Sue Ault of Jacobsburg; brothers, Don and Cliff Stillion  of Sebring, Ohio.; 3 granddaughters, Julia Rena Palmer, Kassie Rena Gillespie, and Kayla Rose Palmer.

Friends will be received on  Sunday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday with Pastors Larry Helms and Ed Emory officiating. Burial follows in Glencoe Cemetery.

Rose Supinski Swider, 79 of Fairpoint died Sunday, March 26, 2006 at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling.

She was born January 14, 1927 in Mount Pleasant, a daughter of the late John and Theodora Supinski.

She was a retired employee of Ponzani’s Florist in St. Clairsville and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fairpoint.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, John, Joseph, and Walter Supinski; a sister, Stella Rogalsky and son-in-law, Harry Brado.

Surviving are her husband, Walter Swider; two children, Ronald (Lynn) Swider and Kathleen (Bob) King of St. Clairsville; sister, Sophie Chemlovsky of Mt. Pleasant; brother, Stanley Supinski of Urichsville; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. A funeral liturgy with mass will be celebrated at noon on Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Church in Fairpoint with Father Thomas Graven the Celebrant. Burial follows in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.

BARBARA JEAN TADDIA

Barbara Jean Taddia (nee Runnels), 75, of St. Clairsville, passed on November 4, 2006 after a brief battle with Cancer.  She was born in Newark, Ohio, on June 5, 1931.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Charles and Alma Kegg Runnels; and her sister, Eleanor Mossbarger.

She is Survived by her husband of 56 years, Donald Taddia; a daughter, Deborah (Michael) Schaafsma; a son, Dennis Taddia; grandchildren, William J. Kuthy Jr., Kristi (Ryan) Polone of Boyd, Texas and Angela Taddia of Havre de Grace, Maryland, step-grandchildren, Michael and Keith Schaafsma of Branson, Missouri; 3 great grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren.

Barbara was a charter member of the Carnation Twig of OVMC.  She was an avid angel collector and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville.

John W. Taylor, 34, of Belmont, died Thursday, September 28, 2006 at East Ohio Regional Hospital.

He was born at Bellaire, Ohio on Oct. 20, 1971.

He was a former employee of Safe Auto.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Hartman Taylor Burkas.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Nalley Taylor; his children, Blaze, Paige, Caleb and Seth Taylor; two sisters, Clara Allen of St. Clairsville and Holly Jones of Canton; two brothers, Jack Taylor of Woodsfield and David Taylor of Beallsville; two half brothers, James and Timmy Taylor both of Tiltonsville; his father, Jack Taylor Sr. of Tiltonsville and stepfather, Tom Burkas of Alledonia.

LEE TAYLOR

Herbert “Lee” Taylor, 79 of Key, Ohio died Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry.

He was born April 17, 1927 in Key, Ohio. A son of the late Herman John Taylor and Lucy McKelvey Taylor.

Lee was a life long resident of Belmont County as well as a life long member of Belmont Presbyterian Church, a World War II Navy veteran, member of the Shadyside American Legion, a retired farmer and employee of Belmont Casket Company in Shadyside.

Lee enjoyed his membership at the Centerville Senior Center where he was an avid 42 and euchre player. He was a great story teller and happiest when surrounded by family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, William Taylor, Alma Montgomery, Laura Decker, George Taylor, Robert Taylor, Frazier Taylor and Charles Taylor.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Naomi Palmer Taylor; children, Connie Twedt (David) of Wardensville, West Virginia., Philip Greg Taylor (Cheri) of Lamar, Indiana, Samra Mazzulli (Kenny) of Key, Ohio, Lisa St. John (Bob) of Safety Harbor, Florida, Linda Smith (Scott) of Dunedin, Florida; sister, Mary Taylor Brown Webber of Key, Ohio; grandchildren, Amanda New Wright, Ryan New, Adam Cetorelli, Heather Love, Lacey Smith, Chelsea St. John, Philip Taylor, Jordan St. John, Taylor Smith Kendra Smith; great grandchild, Ryan Love; many nieces and nephews.

BOB THORNTON

Robert C. “Bob” Thornton, 92 of Pickerington, Ohio former long time resident of Bellaire died Sunday, April 16, 2006 at Mt. Carmel East Medical Center in Columbus.

He was born at Glencoe on February 12, 1914 a son of the late Matthew and Sarah Robson Thornton.

Bob retired from Windsor Power House Coal with 40 years of service.  He served the city of Bellaire as Safety Director and a Councilman for many years and served as president of UMWA Local 6362 for 15 years.  He was a member of the West Bellaire United Methodist Church, Bridgeport Eagles for 65 years, Bellaire Elks for 50 years, UMWA for 70 years, MEMEA and the Forest Hill Community Association for 50 years.  Bob was also a life member of Ionic Lodge #438 F.& A.M. at Bellaire and the Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Masonic Bodies of the Valley of Steubenville.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Ronald Thornton; a daughter Virginia Lee Thornton; brothers George, Joe, Russell, William and Franklin; sisters Victoria Webb, Mary McMahon and Mildred Yeager.

He is survived by his wife Margaret L. Masters Thornton; daughters Laura Davis of Grove City, Ohio, Dorothy Smithers of Las Vegas, Nevada and Jeanne Postage of Pickerington, Ohio; 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren including a set of twin girls and a set of quadruplets 2 boys and 2 girls and 1 great great grandchild.

Russ Thornton, 58 of Glencoe, Ohio died Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Belmont Community Hospital in Bellaire.

He was born in Bellaire on May 10, 1948 a son of Betty Helms Thornton and the late Russell A. Thornton, Sr.

Russ was an employee of the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. Martins Ferry Plant.  He was an army veteran of the Vietnam War, a lifetime member of VFW Post 5356 at St. Clairsville, a member of American Legion Post 632 at Glencoe and a Methodist by faith.

He was preceded in death by his father Russell Thornton, Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Karon Doggett Thornton; his mother Betty Helms Thornton; children Russa Beckett (Bob), Erika Thornton (Jason), Alisa Thornton and Seth Thornton all of Glencoe; sisters Sharon Olexo of Key Ridge and Colleen Seckman of Glencoe; grandchildren Isaac Donahue, Brittney Beckett, Bryanna Beckett, Bradyn Russell Edward Beckett and Jadyn Thornton.

George Ticarich Jr., 74, of St. Clairsville, died Monday, December 11, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in West Bellaire, Ohio on November 17, 1932, son of the late George Ticarich Sr. and Barbara Stepanovich Ticarich.

George was retired from the Clevite Factory in Lansing and Phillips Stamping in Bellaire.  He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War;  he was a member of the American Legion Post # 52 in Bellaire; and a member of the Ionic Lodge # 438 F. & A.M. at Bellaire.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his wife, Kay Henzler Ticarich; three daughters, Tammy (Don) Crosby of Bellaire, Jody (Sam) Peroni of St. Clairsville and Cindy (Mike) Bacon of St. Clairsville; two sisters, Mildred Hotlosz of Bellaire and Donna Ticarich of Bellaire; a brother, Joseph Ticarich of Bellaire; seven grandchildren, Britany and Ryan Crosby, Austin, Shane and Blake Peroni and Landan and Dakota Bacon; several nieces and nephews.

BILL TOOTHMAN

William L. “Bill” Toothman, 81, of Jacobsburg, Ohio, died October 4, 2006 at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital.

He was born December 11, 1924 in Jacobsburg, Ohio a son of the late Willis L. “Doc” Toothman and Roberta McMaster Toothman.

Bill was a retired owner and operator of Toothman Funeral Homes and the Chairman of the Board.  He served Ohio Valley families as a licensed funeral director and embalmer for 60 years.  He was a 50 year member of Weyer Lodge #541 F. & A.M. at Centerville.  He graduated from Bellaire High School in 1942 and was a 1946 graduate of the  Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.  Bill also was a recipient of the Austin C. Furbee Award for outstanding alumnus of Ohio University.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Dorothy Warren.

Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Virginia J. Wilson Toothman; his children, Wilson L. (Linda) Toothman of St. Clairsville, Portia A. (Conrad) Heydle of St. Clairsville, Susan J. (Larry) Vicen of Jacobsburg and Clark T. (Jean Ann) Toothman of St. Clairsville; a sister, Jeanne (Gordon) Schroeder of Jacobsburg; nine grandchildren, Denise (A.C.) IRENE TROYANOVICH

Irene Troyanovich, 79 of Flushing died Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at her home.

She was born April 1, 1927 in Midway, Ohio, daughter of the late Stephen and Anna Fallat Troyanovich.

Irene was a retired employee of Consol Energy and was of the Eastern Orthodox faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, John, Stephen and Andrew Troyanovich; sisters, Mary Strake, Helen Schneider and Katherine Sproull.

Surviving are sisters, Anna Mick, Betty Tokar and Barbara Mudrak; several nieces and nephews.

TRACY TUNNELL

On March 4, 2006, Tracy Tunnell passed away at East Ohio Regional Hospital with friends at his bedside.

Tracy was born October 17, 1964 in Port Clinton, Ohio to Donald Keith Shangler and Ellen Lee Tunnell.

During the past two years, Tracy resided at the Belmont Habilitation Center and was employed by Belco Works.

He is survived by his friends and family at the Belmont Habilitation Center.

Tracy was an active participant in Special Olympics and also sang with various choral groups. He had a beautiful voice that was mesmerizing to any listener and was an eloquent speaker who could carry on a conversation with anyone. He was also a sports fanatic and could site statistics from years ago. Go Steelers! He enjoyed working and being active.

We cannot forget the hour long trips at Dairy Queen - vanilla milkshake (small) and chicken strip basket. Hurry up, Tracy!

Irene M. VanCuren, 87 of Flushing, Ohio died Monday, February 20, 2006 at her home. She was born July 16, 1918 in Holloway, Ohio a daughter of the late Charles and Carrie Rhodes Webster.

She was a member of the Flushing Presbyterian Church, a former owner of Dave and Rene’s Restaurant, a member of Freeport Chapter 319 Order of the Eastern Star formerly Flushing Chapter, a chairlady of the Belmont Co. Democratic Party, a member of the Cripple Children Society, Flushing Garden Club, Holloway  Old-Timers, Flushing Firemen’s Auxiliary, Ruritan Club and a poll worker for over 25 years.

As a young girl she enjoyed basketball and was on the Holloway Basketball Team when they won the State Championship.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David in 1985; two sons, Robert and Donnie; two sisters, Nellie Cordner and Dolores Webster; a brother, Kenneth Webster.

Surviving are a daughter, Vicki (John) Hawkins; a grandson, William Hawkins all of Flushing; two brothers, Jason (Roseann) Webster of Barnesville and Phillip (Sondra) Webster of Philadelphia, PA; several nieces and nephews.

Betty Jean Van Dyne, 78, of St. Clairsville died Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at Forest Hill Nursing Home in St. Clairsville.  She was born August 17, 1927 in Bannock, Ohio, daughter of the late Charles J. and Hanna Ross Branz.

She was retired from the former Belmont National Bank in St. Clairsville.

Martha Jean Vannest, 76 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Thursday, October 26, 2006 at East Ohio Regional Hospital.

She was born at Woodsfield, Ohio on March 15, 1930 a daughter of the late James and Mary Taylor Wilson.

Martha Jean was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church at St. Clairsville.

Fred Verardi, 58 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at his home.

He was born June 10, 1948 in Barnesville, Ohio, a son of Fred Verardi and Victoria DellaMorta Verardi of St. Cloud, Florida.

Fred was the CEO of Madison Coal Company-Park Stone Energy of Charleston, West Virginia, former Superintendent of Oglebay Norton’s Saginaw Mine in St.Clairsville, Ohio, Director of Operations for Electric Fuels Corporation in St. Petersburg, Florida, President of Kanawha River Terminals, Senior Vice president for Progress Energy in Raleigh, North Carolina. Fred sincerely loved and appreciated all of his many present and former co-workers.

He was a graduate of Seton Central High School in Lafferty, Ohio and an Ohio University graduate. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville. He was a decorated Army veteran having received two Bronze Stars for his service during the Vietnam Conflict, a member of Belmont Lodge # 16 F. & A.M., the VFW Post # 5356 and American Legion Post # 159 of St. Clairsville, a member of Osiris Temple of the Shrine in Wheeling as well as a member of many other professional organizations.

Surviving in addition to his parents, are his wife, Ann Connelly Verardi; a daughter, Katie Sutton Williams and her husband Sam of St. Clairsville; a grandson, Brody Alexander Williams; two sisters, Vicky Lynn (Gary) Sexton of St. Cloud, Florida, Lisa (Dan) Kemp of Kissimmee, Florida; a brother Donald (Kim) Verardi of West Alexander, Pennsylvania; 6 nieces and 4 nephews.

Richard W. Verardi, 73, of Fairpoint, Ohio, died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital, with his family at his side.  He was born August 2, 1932 in Fairpoint, son of the late Arthur and Theresa Vickey Verardi.

Richard was a retired office manager from Carson’s Auto Parts in Cadiz.  He was the Clerk for Wheeling Township for 22 years.  He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fairpoint.  Richard was a graduate from St. Clairsville High School in 1950; he was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean War; and he was a member of the Polish American Political Club in Fairpoint.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by two sisters, Angeline Cervelli and Joan Stufflebeam; and a brother, Carl Verardi.

Surviving are his wife, Deanna L. Kubica Verardi; three children, Darlene (Henry) Kolodziej, Richard L. Mary Lu Vinskovich, 49, of Jacobsburg, formerly of Barnesville, died Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital.  She was born December 8, 1956 in Bellaire, Ohio, daughter of the late Louis A. Kolenich Sr. and Goldie Piatt Kolenich Gallagher.

Mary Lu was a Licensed Practical Nurse with Maxim Health Care.  She was a catholic by faith.

She was preceded in death by both parents in 1999.

LOUISE WALLACE

Mary Louise Wallace, 84 of Donnerville, Ohio died Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at the Bell Nursing Home, Morristown.

She was born at Bannock, Ohio on February 26, 1921 a daughter of the late Joseph and Hazel Donner Stanchina.

Louise was a homemaker and a former employee of Bell Nursing Home.  She was a member of the Mission Alliance Church at Flushing and a 50 year member of Freeport Chapter #319 Order of Eastern Star, formerly Flushing Chapter.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Russell Wallace an infant son Russell William Wallace a grandson Robbie Wallace a great granddaughter Shana her son-in-law Eugene Dunlap and a sister Grace Humphrey.

She is survived by her daughter Anna Louise Dunlap of Cadiz her sons Robert (Sharon) Wallace of St. Clairsville; Thomas (Charlotte) Wallace of Bannock; Randall (Margaret) Wallace of Bannock and Terry (Anita) Wallace of Donnerville her sisters Lois Repan of Flushing and Marie Johnson of Donnerville; 17 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. where services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jack McKimmie officiating.  Burial will follow in Longview Cemetery at New Athens.

 

SHERMAN WATERMAN

Sherman Waterman, 86 of Glencoe died Tuesday, March 7, 2006 in Glencoe.

He was born September 2, 1919 in Warnock, a son of the late Sherman Waterman and Annabelle Richards Waterman.

He was a retired employee of East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry, a member of the World Wide Church of God, and an Army veteran of WWII.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Farrand Waterman; brothers, George and Everett Waterman; half brother, Ernest Early.

Surviving are four daughters, Gail Rivera of Kerman, California, Cathy Doty of Orville, Ohio, Ruth Homan and Janice Jeffers of Glencoe; two sons, Lorne Waterman of Glencoe and Dale Waterman of Springville, New York; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. where services will be held at noon on Friday with Dan Cheatham officiating. Burial follows in Warnock Cemetery.

The Belmont County Council of American Legions will conduct services at 6 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

 

ROBERT H. WILLARD

Robert H. Willard, 81, passed away on October 17, 2006 at Belmont Manor in St. Clairsville, OH.  He was born on February 8, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Harry and Clara Nichols Wakefield Willard.

Surviving are one sister, Annie Wakefield Sherman of Palatka, FL, one niece and husband, Joanne and Larry Hammond of Clarksburg, WV, and one nephew and wife, Martin and Karen Sherman of Palatka, FL.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Willard was preceded in death by two brothers, Junior Willard and Leonard Willard Murphy.

Mr. Willard served proudly in the U. S. Army during World War II from February 21, 1942 to February 7, 1945.

Services will be held with Full Military Honors at West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton, West Virginia on Friday, Oct. 20, 2006 at 11 a.m.  Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio is in charge of arrangements.

 

WEBSTER WILSON

Webster W. Wilson, age 66, of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Friday, June 30, 2006 at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born at Moundsville, West Virginia on September 21, 1939 a son of the late Wiley Webster Wilson and Austia Palmer Wilson.

Webster was a former employee of Scott Lumber Company at Lansing. He was past president of the Moundsville Jaycees and was selected for inclusion in the 1970 edition of Outstanding Young Men of America in recognition of excellence in his career and community service.  He served three years as publicity director for the Marshall County Chapter of the West Virginia Heart Association.  Webster was a graduate of the Famous Photographers School of Westport, Connecticut and was an Army National Guard veteran having served on active duty during the Berlin Wall Crisis in 1961-62.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters Eileen Clark, Evelyn Coffield and Thelma Wilson; brother Ronald Wilson and an infant brother.

He is survived by his wife Virginia Jewell Wilson. A daughter Tammy (Steve) Robinson of Wheeling; a grandson William Robinson and a sister Naomi (Stanley) Owoc of  Moundsville.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. where services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Bradley Call officiating.  Burial follows at Belmont County Memorial Park, St. Clairsville.

ED WOODS

Harry Edward Woods, age 80, of St. Clairsville, died Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at home.  He was born January 15, 1926 in Bellaire, Ohio, son of Louise Woods and the late Edward Woods.

Ed was a retired employee from General Welding in Martins Ferry.  He was a U. S. Air Force veteran of World War II.  He was a member of Thoburn United Methodist Church in St. Clairsville. Ed was a member and past Master of Ohio City Lodge # 486 in Martins Ferry; a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Steubenville; a past High Priest of the Martins Ferry Chapter # 173 Royal Arch Masons; a member of the Bellaire Council Royal and Select Masons # 87; a member of the board of trustees for the Masonic Temple Corp.; and avid pilot; a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and the AOPA.

In addition to his father, Ed was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Erica Smith; and a brother, Leonard Woods.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Johnston Woods; his mother, Louise Woods of Ravena, Ohio; a son, Edward Allen (Katherine) Woods of Wheeling; a daughter, Kathy (Alan) Tracy of St. Clairsville; a grandson, Ryan Woods of North Carolina; and three sisters.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, where services will be held on Friday, Aug. 4, 2006 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Bradley Call officiating.  Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in St. Clairsville.  Masonic services will be conducted on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

CHARLES S. “CHIP” YOUNG

Charles S. “Chip” Young, 51, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died at his home Thursday, April 20, 2006.  He was born in Pasadena, California on October 1, 1954, son of Earl S. “Bud” Young and Nancy Carter Young.

He was employed at Belco Works in St. Clairsville. Chip was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville and he enjoyed volunteering at the St. Clairsville Food Pantry.

He is survived by his parents, Earl “Bud” and Nancy Carter Young of St. Clairsville; a brother, Richard (Margie) Young of St. Clairsville; two nephews, David (Karen) Young of Michigan and Kevin Young of St. Clairsville; an aunt, Jean (Bill) Appel of Michigan; three great nieces and cousins.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where services will be held on Monday at 12 Noon with Rev. Homer Harden officiating.  Entombment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.

JOSEPH L. YUDASZ

Joseph L. Yudasz, 81, of St. Clairsville, died Saturday, August 19, 2006 at his home with his family by his side.  Joe was known by his family and friends as “Pappy Joe”, “Farmer Joe”, “Brother Joe” and “Uncle Joe”. 

Joseph was born December 4, 1924 in Crescent, Ohio, a son of the late Joseph and Valeria Budziach Yudasz.

He was a retired farmer and U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Seabees.  Joe was a member of the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Maynard; member of the American Legion Post # 666 in Maynard; Knights of Columbus honorary member, a member of Maynard PNA Lodge # 455; member of the Fairpoint Polish Club, a member of the VFW Post # 8848 in Colerain; member of the Belmont County Farm Bureau and a member of the Saints Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Yudasz; and four sisters, Mary Turkaly, Anna Gazdik, Stella Marma and Frances Antolak.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Rose Vicker Yudasz; two sons, Joseph “Butch” (Barb) Yudasz and James “Jim” (Lisa) Yudasz both of St. Clairsville; two daughters, Janet (Kent) Cattran and Paula (Al) Bigelow both of St. Clairsville; a brother, Richard Yudasz of St. Clairsville; three sisters, Sophie Antolak and Betty Holubeck both of St. Clairsville and Victoria Shipta of Parma, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Karolyn (Lance) Porter, Adam Yudasz, Nicole, Derek and Brianne Cattran, Sara, Michael and Zachary Bigelow, Adelyna and Joseph Yudasz; a great grandson, David Bailey Porter; many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Monday from 2 to 9 p.m.  Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at St. Stanislaus Church in Maynard on Tuesday at 10 a.m., with Father Thomas Graven the celebrant.  Entombment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Pleasant Grove.

A Knights of Columbus service is scheduled on Sunday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.  There will be a PNA service at 3:15 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home followed by a vigil service at 4 p.m.  There will also be an American Legion service on Monday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.  Full military honors will be conducted on Tuesday at the cemetery by the Belmont County Council of American Legions.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Stanislaus Church, the St. Mary’s School or a fire department of the donors choice.

MARIE ZATEZALO

Marie Zatezalo, age 90, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died Monday, August 28, 2006 at Belmont Manor Nursing Home in St. Clairsville.  She was born on July 30, 1916, daughter of the late Salvatore and Theresa Ambrosia Fiore.

Marie was the retired office manager of the former John Zatezalo Insurance and Real Estate Agency in St. Clairsville.  She was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, and a life member of the American Legion Post # 159 in St. Clairsville.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville and a member of the Evergreens.

In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, John Zatezalo; a sister, Annette Caracciolo; and three brothers, John Fiore, Frank Fiore and Salvatore Fiore Jr.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville.  Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville on Thursday at 10 a.m., with Father Thomas Chillog the celebrant.  There will be a committal service on Saturday at Holy Cross Cemetery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The American Legion will conduct services on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
